ill probably look for an 1150rt ,next year ,was going to be an airhead ,but i want something a bit more modern .
i loved my 1100rt ,and would like an 1150rt ,that is unless i can find a cheap 1200rt.
so ,whats the cheapest youve seen a 1200rt ,sell for ,id rather have a 1200 ,if i could afford it .
i could probably raise £4000-4500 ,absolute max

You should get one for that, although you might end up with a pre 07 bike (servo assist brakes). I bought an ex police bike, 07 48k mls, for 4k. I spent about 800 on it and had me a fairly nice, well maintained bike!

Watch for low spec on the official bikes though, heated grips only.....

is that so bad ,if its servo assisited, ive had around 17 bmws ,and about 10 gsers, some with servo some without, personelly, ive never had a problem, with servo ,or final drive ,or any other of the horror storys you normally get associated with 1200s.
do you like the 1200,my only worry is the sheer physicall size of it .
compared to an 1150 ,it seems huge

Is that so bad if its servo assisted?
I've had around 17 BMWs, and about 10 GSes, some with servo some without Personally,I've never had a problem, with servo, final drive, or any other of the horror stories associated with 1200 models.

Fixed the previous statement to make it readable. Reasonably correct. I have had a 2005 1200rt (servo) for 6 years now, and the only fault has been a fuel pump controller failure.
You will buy easily within your budget, but, from experience, be sure to buy one with cruise control on it. Worth any extra money you will give.
Myke

I'm just about to buy a 1200RT SE. The R1100RT I'd ridden for the last 14 years was a great bike but just doesn't compare well against the 1200RT. I've spent the last 14 years saving for it so I'll try and ride it for at Least the next 16 years.

I had a problem with the servo on my 2005 12RT and was quoted £1,200 to get it sorted IIRC.

Although the bike was 5 years old at the time, so obviously well out of warranty , BMW agreed to foot the complete bill, parts and labour.

The servo failed on my K1200S at 4500 miles, but was sorted under warranty. I was told it would have cost £1200 if I was paying myself

I thought the 1100RT was much heavier than the 1200? I test rode an 1150RT once and thought it was huge, but I had just stepped off a Thundercat 600. The 1200RT is much more manageable IMHO.

not sure of the weights of the bikes ,the 1200 looks the biggest.
dont know if its heavier than the 1150rt ,i assume its not .
so i guess, its a non servo bike ,did they make non servos before 07 ?

Dave, I've had 3 1200's 1 1150 and I've now got an 1100.

Got to agree with you, the 1200 is/looks huge, but IMHO it feels like the lightest, most manageable of all 3.

The 1100 was a money option really, i can live with a 2k bike sat in the garage and only being ridden periodically, whereas a 5k 1200, it was difficult to justify.

I dont know what they actually weigh, but the 1200 feels lightest on the road. Prior to 07 they had servo i think!

The 1100 is a bit agri, the 1150 a huge improvement, but the 1200 is the best by a country mile. If i only had 1 bike, it would be a 1200RT.

Hope this helps!

P.S.

If you see a 1200 over my way and need it looking at let me know.

cheers smudger, i know what you mean.
ive had so many bikes ,sitting in the workshop, not being ridden.
now begining to think ,i might go down the route of a slightly cheaper 1150rt,as i live where i work ,i dont get to ride as much as i would like ,
think ,ive only been out on the harley twice this year.
ill have a think, like allways ,it will be dictated by money (and my impatientness:blast).
if i keep saving, and find aone for the right price ,ill get a 1200,if i end up with a 1150 ,i wont be dissapointed .

If you just want an RT for occasional riding get an 1100. IMHO they have a better build quality than 1150, although sometimes the 'missing' 6th gear on the 1100 is obvious. Here's mine,

I also have a HD (road king) and a GS, so know what you mean mate!:blast
