Hello all,

At some point over the last 200 miles or so i've lost the circlip from the master link. Besides me being a cheap bar steward, i didn't want to add a new link on an old chain (has about 10k miles on it) as i'm not sure a new link on a worn chain would be a good thing.

So the question is - does anyone know where i can get a suitable circlip on it's own?

For info chain is a DID 525 VX fitted with a Scottoiler.

As always, any info / assistance would be gratefully received.

Best,

S

Well, there's cheap and then there's really cheap. It sounds like you may be the latter. :nenau

First off, putting a new masterlink into an old chain has no downside (i.e. it will fit and present no increased likelihood of failure at that point or transfer any significant stress to anyplace else on the old chain). Secondly, it is more likely that just a clip from another link would introduce a greater problem than the replacement of the whole link.

The really "cheap" aspect of this is, having made the decision to use a master link, you don't have a spare master link in your possession already. What's the point of opting for a master-linked chain over an endless chain, when you don't have a spare link if/when it fails? It's not like master links are the most expensive item on your BMW, fer Pete's sake... :blast

Just my tuppence worth. YMMV

Perfect answer:thumb

But I'd personally never use a split link on a moderately powerful bike:)
