I see a few people are running these on 1190's / 1290's.

Be interested to hear from anyone who has a chain oiler, especially a TUTORO (I want the "Auto" version) I am considering this one as it looks pretty easy to fit to the frame tube but are concerned about:

* The really thin oil chain oilers have to use - looks as if it will just fling off, especially after being super-heated by the rear cylinder.

* The Capacity - The oil reservoir looks a bit small, if I have to carry extra oil I might as well just pack one of those mini chain lube sprays that WD40 do.

* Dripping when the bike is parked - I cannot see what stops any oil in the tube just dripping out while the bike is parked.

Generally oiling the chain is not an issue for me, and it lasts ages so I can apply some oil, leave it to dry on, go for a ride, clean the wheel and then my bike looks great for another 400 - 500 miles.

The issue is when touring, especially when it rains as this will strip the chain of oil really quickly, so having an oiler I can just "wind up" a bit when riding in the rain, or when it starts looking a bit dry on a trip might be handy.

Currently I just carry a couple of the mini cans which will do a two week tour quite easily (I just apply a little each evening)

I've a scottoiler on three of my bikes, and have no issue with oil viscosity, it can take a little time to get flow rate right but chain isn't dry and no tight spots either.

I've got a Scottoiler too. Bit hit & miss to get the flow right, but I prefer it to using a chain spray, less messy than the gooey chain sprays as well. Having said that, the tutoro has good reviews and is more straight forward to fir with no vacuum tube.

Had the same Scottoiler on both my 1190s. When it works, it's great, but it doesn't always work. After years of pissing about with it, this is what I've learned:

You're right about the heat affecting the oiler. Fitted in the suggested position on the frame tube by the rear cylinder the oil easily reaches 30ºC (I've measured it). Works OK some of the time, but I have now found that thicker, stickier Stihl chain saw oil works better except when the temps are below maybe low teens. It's massively cheaper too. Might try using their thinner synthetic next winter.

If you ride dirty back roads, once you get a little bit of dirt on the chain, the oil will no longer wick across top to lube the inner plate and O ring. There is no room to fit the Scottoiler twin nozzle, which would cure the problem.

Doesn't seem to matter how high you set the dispenser dial in the wet, the chain doesn't seem to get properly lubed. I even found it rusty once, and i'd used nearly a whole reservoir in 150 odd miles.

I still have to clean the chain occasionally.

it's probably still better than not having it, so I'll keep it, but were I starting from scratch I'd go for something with positive pressure for the oil feed. This looks promising.

Cheers one and all.

The Cobrra Nemo does look very interesting, I will have a good look at the manual and see if I can find any online reviews.

Would rather not mount it on the bars so will also see if it can be mounted elsewhere.

I use a Scottoiler on my 1190 and adjust the flow according to the temperature to avoid too much getting on the wheel and tyre. I adjusted my chain once in the first 7.5k miles and that was more because I thought I should do rather than because it was hanging off the sprockets.

I do give it an extra clean with an old tooth brush and paraffin every 6 months or so but otherwise I just flick it with my foot to check the tension once in a while and that's it.

I have the Tutoro and am pretty happy with it. It only lets oil out as the bike vibrates and bumps along on the road. When the bike is stationary it can't dispense oil. (Unless it's on a trailer .. !).

When touring I've filled it right up to start with, and then taken a tiny bottles worth (cough mixture bottle i think it was ..?) for more if I needed it. Fine for two weeks away.

Good product that I recommend. :thumb2

I've just ordered one for my 1290.

You can mount it anywhere.
