do all the F700GS rear chains rattle against the nylon pads on the swing arm. mine does it on a light throttle. chain is adjusted correctly.

I'm on a 658 and have seen 800's too - they all do it as the suspension has more travel than the typical road bike.

Though there may be a few other opinions out there... I think better a bit loose than a bit tight as wearing the nylon a little is cheaper than replacing a chain and possibly shaft bearings.

Best,

It's a problem with all chain drives. The sprockets aren't round - more like 3d bits. They set up a vibration in the chain at various speeds. Adjustment can minimise the effect.

The sprockets aren't round?

Is it a constant rattle or just when the chain is in a certain position ?. My chain was the original one fitted and started to rattle only when a part of the chain left the rear sprocket. On examination 8 of the links had stretched more than compared to the rest of the links. Spoke to the dealer who advised that the chains fitted as original are not very good. Fitted a heavy duty one from Moto Works with a Scott Oiler and 3000 miles later still have not adjusted the chain yet.

Does this help Halfa1200?

Sprockets are not round or circular

Watch the chain lift each time a link engages with a sprocket tooth. On a motorcycle this effect can set up a harmonic vibration in the open length of the chain.

Mine is doing too, first it gone worse, when i change 16T front sprocket, after few thousand i change front back 17T, change new chain and rear sprocket to 47T. Now it's almost quiet, and much better handling in city and small, sandy roads.
But still chain "vibrate", around 2000 rpm.

yes mine is around 2000 rpm. on a light throttle. as soon as I open it up or shut the throttle it goes. the chain is the correct adjustment, I did try loosening it slightly but made no difference. and I don't want it any tighter than recommended. I forgot to mention mine is a factory lowered model if it makes any difference.
