I have some problem to engage or change gears (1, 2) when I start the bike and drive for the first 4 minutes. The gears are VERY hard to engage. After everything is fine ...
Is this normal or should I talk about it with my dealer at my first 1000 Kms service ?
Thanks

As I suspectyed the 1200GS is being brought by a bunch of pansys with tinsy wincy little sensitive toes.

But then again that's what air heads said of 1100 owners and 1100 owners said of 1150 owners.

But I belive it's safe to say that the developement of the ultimate rider and real man has reached it's peak with 1150 owner/riders.

My 1150 was never like that and the 1200 is a much better box, i'd get it back to the dealer.

Sometimes first is awkward after a cold start but an out/in of the clutch sorts it. Then the gearbox is not too bad, bit like a tractor but not too bad.

This is most certainly not normal and a trip back to the dealer is required.

Can't speak for the 1200, but the other two boxers I've had have had stiff changes when cold. The trick to engaging first from cold is, with the engine running, to pull in the clutch and pre-load the gear lever. Then slowly release the clutch and the gear will pop in as if by magic. When trying to engage second try and syncronise the throttle, clutch and gear lever so that all the movements take place at the same time. The trick here is not to let the engine revs drop too much. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and still have it sometimes. I mentioned, wrote it for the 1000 km service, the service guy told me this is normal as they always answer when you ask for something! This problem seems to be less and less coming with growing mileage.

so seems they are correct :-)

I had the same problem with my K1200RS, somewhere in the dark past. When it was freezing in the morning, I couldn't get it from 1 to 2 for the first 500 meters or so.

It was fixed by using fully synthetic gearbox oil. Worked perfectly after that! I now have the synthetic stuff in my 1150 gearbox too, and I like it.

Cheers,
Michel

I have the same problem with first gear on my Adventure. I just have to ease the clutch out and slip the gear in as you are easing the clutch out. Works every time

Migsel

That explains why mine has been fine from new as I put Fully synth gear oil in.
