Lucas DAB400!!!! feck me is that what they are? If I'd have realised that was the equivilent I could have saved some cash.

The DAB400 is one of the most common automotive ignition units from the 80's. It was fitted to Audi, Lancia, Volvo,VW and loads more.

I've just done a search on Audi ignition modules and there's loads of new ones starting at £2.50, no bids and just a little while to go....I've been done :(

Here's the list of vehicles that use this module. Next time you're out "doing it" Fritz and the modules packs up just rob one from any of these :D

I posted the replacement type on here in September 2004, DAB400. I looked around at the time because I couldnt beleive the price Motorworks wanted for the unit 47.15 then plus postage! Intermotor imports them from Germany and the Lucas ones are made in Germany, Bosch are made in Germany. I reckon they are all manufactured by the same company and branded up. they look identical and come with the same tube of heat sink paste. Find it hard to beleive there would be multiple German manufacturers of the same item.

I bought two Intermotor ones for 15.00 each locally, code 15000 units, fitted one to the bike and kept the other as a spare. Look on the bright side some guys are paying over 50 each from Motorworks :)

Main one is Rotors for alternator, I've heard a car uses same rotor at about 1/3rd of price, but can I find it?? Can I buggery :( :(

Take the old rotor to a good washing machine fixing establishment, and have it rewound - about £15 .
Establishment i used to use in wandsworth closed down couple years ago.

There used to be a place near reading that rewound rotors ( not much help, i know). :D
 
Did you know the fuel tank for a trabant is the same as a GS PD tank ??

A DAB 126 comes up as a 4pin unit with no Bosch equivalent. Dab400 is the seven pin Gs type. I have been looking for a voltage regulator to replace the mechanical one (as early airhead) fitted to my Guzzi and have found a trade supplier that does these, ign units, diode boards and brushes at keen prices...whetherthey will supply me is yet to be seen.

Does anyone have the Bosch numbers for ign coils so i can look them up.

Motorworks supplies the DAB400 or did in 2003/ 2004. Intermotor equivalent is the 15000 unit, seven pin, identical. I fitted the Intermotor unit to my R100GS and ran it for over 14,000 miles without any problems before parting with it.

Motorworks wanted 47.15 in 2004 for the Lucas DAB400. I questioned the Lucas replacement as mine had a Telefunken unit. I had fitted a replacement ICU to my old Audi and had paid 15.00 at the local motor factors so I searched around. I was given a list of equivalents from the Intermotor catalogue and double checked before buying 2. The casings, fittings and packaging on the Intermotor unit are identical down to the little tube of heat sink paste. 14,000 miles of my use ( still running two years later) would be proof enough for me that its an equivalent.

Pays your money takes your choice. The real rip off here is the price Motorworks charges for the Lucas DAB 400 which is available at motor factors at less than half.
 
Motomartin is it true the GS/Trabant tanks were made from paper and crafted by teams of specially trained communist Hornets?
