Cheap tyre pressure sensor

Some of the genuine ELM 327 obd tools are "said" to work with Motoscan app but how well ? you will also need the 16 pin obd to 10 pin bmw lead about £10 on ebay.
I use an OBDlink MX+ with 16 to 10 pin lead and Motoscan ultimate app with an android phone and it works for coding the sensors etc, but I prefer to use the GS911.
As for waking sensors, genuine or not, I have tried kicking the tyre, bouncing the wheel around the workshop, rapidly deflating the tyre, spinning the sensors up in a jig in the lathe, and nothing has worked except for the £10 wake up tool from China, which works every time.
I think your best bet is to find someone local to you with the kit to wake up the sensor and code the ECU, it will only take a few minutes.
If you were local to me I would be more than happy do it.

Have you a link for the Chinese £10 wake up tool?

Here you go.

At a fiver it is handy to be able to wake up the sensors to check the pressures before you set off.

My front wheel tyre pressure sensor has gone AWOL (2010 bike). New they are stupid prices, second hand they are silly postage costs from Lithuania and they look like bits missing. I have seen the DIY replace battery link which route I may go down, but I have seen these cheap Chinese units. Has anyone tried them? Also are they the right units?

Any thoughts or am I going to be the tester?

I had an intermittent fault on my C650 so did the DIY repair/battery replacement which worked

Well I now have the wake up tool and the Chinese sensor, no instructions though. What do I need to do next? The only thing that the little label says is make sure bike is in learning mode?

ideally you need a member of the forum who lives near you with either a GS911 or an OBDLINK MX and the Motoscan software, to donate 5 minutes of their time to clear the old unit from the ECU and enter the new one.

you have to plug into the vehicle diagnostics with either the BMW dealer tool, or with the GS911 rip off tool or the motoscam ultimate phone app (good value at £40 plus a high quality adaptor £60 ish). Then "write" the codes of the new Bluetooth sensors to the vehicles ZFE module (central chassis electronics ECU). You can't do this with cheap fake 12 quid ebay adaptors as they can't communicate the long code string BMW use

while playing turn on the tyre temp display in the kombi (which is a std part of the motoscan app and the TPMS system BMW fitted)

Just a question.
All this tyre pressure sensor nonsense. Do you really need them.
I've been riding for 40 years and never had them. If a tyre has a low pressure I can tell by the way it effects the handling almost immediately. On the odd occasion many years ago I had a tyre blow out I don't think a sensor would have helped much. I survived.

Just curious really as a mate has Garmin sensors fitted to his M1800R. Connected to his Garmin 595 and he says it gives him peace of mind knowing he will get a warning if he starts to lose pressure.

its something to do whilst waiting the engine oil to warm up or on a long motorway trip

actually very handy as u can just see if you need to pump them up, rather than waste time checking

about a useful as a speedo, most of the time a waste of space, but if you want to check your speed vital

I would agree if I checked my speed before leaving home each time and not again

Handy for those times you hit a pot hole or piece of wood in the road , more so on a road that you can not stop on.
Just to press the button and check the pressures are not dropping for peace of mind
Also find it easier to press the button when leaving the yard rather than using the tyre pressure gauge before setting off.

if you go on long trip with a full load and do a tank at 125mph plus having the tyre temp display on is a nice little safety feature

I replaced mine as had a yellow warning triangle permanently on the display which also masks other warnings given out by the bike.

After enabling the tyre temperature function,I was surprised how hot the tyres got even on a very cold days.

its another fun little toy

Just remembered did a trip to the other side of Germany on a really hot day, the rear tyre was way hotter than I'ver ever had on a bike before or since. It was frustratingly when it was the first sensor who's battery stopped.... ) That stupid amber waring triangle (that's usually the low fuel light) taking over for the whole trip and stopping you getting the reading from the one that left

the first pic of the K13, was at 56C but dropped 2 by the time I got the camera out. It was too hot to ride that day and I wasn't really anywhere where I could give it any

Well I've done it. Used the battery changing method. Used new battery, soldering iron, glue gun. and a sharp Stanley knife. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, the main challenge is getting the tyre off and on. No more Yellow Triangle.
