cheapest front brake mod please !

i certainly know what you mean with putting up with what you have etc, the 25 year old enfield i rode in india, 2 up with luggage was worse than the g/s,but somehow suited the roads and the other traffic:eek:(maybe i got to into the india thing:aidan)
however, if i rode it every day over there i would do something about it.
my g/s is my only bike and was a box of bits when i bought it,many non standard,i ride every day its not raining to work, tour 2 up and love a bit of hooning through our city traffic, best bike i ever had!!
yes, now back to the bloody point:thumb. the front brake is still shite and im skint, master cylinder rebuilt, braided hose, caliper ok, cast disk, left fork leg has lugs for second caliper........whats next??????????

Oh yes the point...........:D

Budget wise try-

Pads first -check what you are using are not glazed and they suited to a cast disk. Search the site for recommendations.

I found the twin pot caliper from an R1100RT a worthwhile mod on my100PD. As mentioned by others 3mm simple machining required. When funds allow add a semi floating disc.

Twin disk option sounds good if you can source all the parts cheaply.

Have you overhauled the caliper? Accumulated shit maybe reducing fluid flow so you are not geting full hydraulic pressure. It is amazing how much crap can appear in a basically sealed system particularly if it hasn't had regular fluid changes.

Glad the wrist is fine -it helps if you visit this forum  :D

i had a 4 pot conversion on my PD, and thought it didn't really warrant the expense. feel was improved, but no real power increase.

i think converting to twin discs requires some wheel machining, even though it looks like a straight fit. sherlocks told me i'd need a new wheel and that a second disc probably wouldn't make much difference anyway

motorworks sell a kit. so might be worth talking to them?

anyway, twin discs just look wrong on an airhead GS IMO, so i've fitted HE big disc kits to both my airheads and though i've been quite pleased with the improvement, but the brakes are still dire by any objective judgement.

The twin disc option makes a hell of a difference to the braking on an Airhead, both of my g/s bikes had it done when I got them, one came with the caliper and disc for the left side not connected so I experienced riding it as a single disc set up as BMW intended and then as a twin disk.

The twin disc on ebay went for £205 in the end. Too much for me. I'll try new pads and an overhaul of the system.

im erring on the side of the 1100 caliper at the mo (tried pads and more bleeding bleeding etc), now i know it fits the GS but will it fit the G/S,or should i be the first to try:confused:

on my bike i have a r100r front brake and it works ok. my bleed it at some point to make it a bit better . my problem is that my rear brake is rubbish and needed to be sorted

if the front brake was any good, you wouldn't need the rear :D
