Chigee AIO5 Play for BMW

at the risk of getting caned for asking....

I have a 2018 K1600 with the cubbyhole in the fairing which would take a nav 5 or 6, would a Chigee BMW fit that slot, or are they more external mount compatible?

But then again my phone is also voice activated so can be controlled without touching anything just as I did today on a ride out, listening to music, changing tracks and getting Google maps to navigate to different places without touching anything
Can you expand on this please? I use Voice Control and the Numbers Overlay to navigate around my iPhone screen which is perfect for use in the car. I have not found a way to interact however with the phone when on the bike as it appears that Apple does not allow bluetooth microphone interaction, only wired (phone calls excepted)

IIUC its not a stand alone sat nav. So how do you navigate if there’s no phone signal ?

Most phone navigation apps allow you to download offline maps for just this scenario. It’s no different to uploading the maps to the dedicated devices, although the phone apps tend to update far more frequently that Garmin devices.

I use Scenic and MyRoute-App. Both tend to get map updates every week or two. Not forced to update them, but it means they’re usually far more current than other dedicated devices.

So stupid question (asking for a friend obviously) if you download maps onto your phone of a particular area you think may have dodgy phone signal does the phone automatically switch to the offline maps?

Maybe thats your issue...Apple (I am not an Apple Fan)

Android allows that so I can talk to my phone using my Sena Mesh headset.

However I don't connect the phone to the bike?..just helmet to phone so that may be the key (I know many people connect to the bike)

That would depend entirely on which navigation app you are using.

I use Scenic (currently iPhone only), which will use offline maps in preference to online, but can use online if necessary. However, you can force the app to work entirely offline and prevent it going online if you wanted to avoid roaming charges when in another country, for example.

I ordered my Chigee on 1st Aug and it arrived yesterday.

So far, I really like it. I use Waze for maps, and Spotify for music. I've a 1250GSA with TFT.

The one dislike about the Chigee is that the screen isn't matt, so quite reflective. Last night I was riding, and I wear a high-vis vest. So, on the Chigee screen, mostly I was seeing my high-vis reflection.

Siri is the answer, if I understand tour conundrum.

You can activate it (when using GHIGEE BMW) without needing to shout inside your helmet by pressing and holding indicator cancel button.

You can possibly buy a screen protector with mat finish.

If that becomes an insurmountable issue for you.......give me a shout, I'll take it off your hands

(genuine comment.....I'm not trying to be smart)

I used to get this with my Nav 6 and often had to put my gloved hand on my chest, to create a dark bit in the reflection, so I could see the route.

I’ve had a Chigee since February and see a slight reflection, but never enough to stop me seeing the screen. What was key though, was customising Scenic to use colours with decent contrast.

The default HERE! maps are like 50 shades of blue/grey with no contrast. It was a major issue with MRA until the last update, which now allows customisation of colours, albeit from a fixed and limited set of colour schemes.

I believe that both, MRA and CHIGEE are ever evolving and things will get much better in due course.

For day to day A—> B driving riding, I just use Apple Maps. Great contrast, very easy to read, with all the info I need clearly displayed without crowding the overall view.

Of top pic:

I am not a big fan of Google Maps (only use it to as a source of information) and definitely not a Waze user. It has proven time and time again that Apple Maps will get me to. A destination quicker by sitting in a traffic jam, rather than having to snake my way around network of local streets and lanes. All Waze does, just takes congestion of 3-4 lane motorway to another place where said traffic jam just become 3-4x bigger and pissing off locals who can’t get by their daily lives.

My MRA comment was more for the benefit of others. MRA has a fixed set of schemes, whereas Scenic allows complete customisation of all elements, including colours, line thickness and font sizes.

I love Scenic and find it far better than MRA for navigation. I’m on the beta and often find that Guido, the developer, fixes issues I report in hours/days.

MRA is head and shoulders above Scenic for planning though, so I use both in combination.

I never do A>B routing on the bike, and my Polestar has Google maps built in.

Does anyone know if the Chigee BMW version would allow wonder wheel functionality for a 2017 R1200RS??

Not quite clear on the website.

Is wonder wheel functionality any different on the RS than it is on a GS/A or any other BMW motorcycle equipped with one?

I think the difference might be the newer TFT dash as opposed to the older type (analogue/digital)
