Ok, here’s where we are at the moment.

My wife and I will be at Chimay from the Friday through until Monday, we’ve got a room in a b&b about 5 minutes walk from the town centre for those nights. The overall plan is to be away for 2 weeks with the racing being the middle weekend and the rest could be anything :D

Anyone who fancies camping, well I’d still suggest the municipal site and walk to the circuit.

Anyone who fancies meeting up there drop me a pm for a phone number.

Andy,

I will be there but with a group of friends, we are renting a large self catering house for the 10+ of us about 10 mins ride away. We did the same last year, and we had a great time as it is really a good atmosphere there, although it was slightly marred by the fatalities on the last day which saw the racing stopped early. But being so close to the racing, being in the paddock area and the friendliness all round is like going back in time.

Hope you have a great time. (y)

I’ve been a few times and agree it’s a great event. Chimay is a good base for rideouts too.

As am I. A wedding in Aachen then a few days on the return leg. Still in planning phase but I'll be in the municipal campsite, as its reported easy and clean and suits me for 2 days

The municipal campsite is fine, if we hadn’t got the B&B that’s where we’d have been. It’s not a bad walk to the circuit and you go past a supermarket to pick up fresh supplies on the way. I’ve probably camped at the circuit more than 10 times over the years and to be brutal about it, it’s crap and as the years have gone by it’s got worse.

With the municipal site you’re 10 minutes walk from the town centre where you can get decent food and beer if you don’t want to do the campsite cooking bit and best of all they’ve got proper toilets :D

Late to this party, but it looks like I'll be there. Got my passport renewed earlier this year, so just need to remember how to communicate with the municipal camping place, and how to ride a bike in foreign.

I've reserved a spot in the municipal campsite, I guess I'd better sort out everything else.

Planning on leaving Northumberland on the Thursday morning, get a late afternoon tunnel crossing, cheap 'n' cheerful hotel somewhere on the French side, and a short-ish ride on Friday morning. Anybody else doing something similar and want to be sociable?

We’re going to be in the area and are looking at going on the Sunday.
Where’s the best place to park(bike) and view from, any other tips/things you wished you knew first time you turned up?
Thanks
Justin

The final bend before the start finish pit lane is good and you’re on the road back into the centre of town as well as the camping area.

Unless things have changed massively from the last time I went, you'll get diverted around the closed roads towards the road that leads north out of Chimay centre (Chaussée de Mons). There'll be a barrier across the road somewhere after the little supermarket. Motorbike parking is either side and the middle of that road, starting from near the Sapeurs-Pompiers station that's just off the south-east corner of the circuit (Porte de Mons).

You can cross the circuit at most corners and some other points between races, just follow the crowds. Alternatively, if you head down the track past the Sapeurs-Pompiers, it'll take you to the camping field, and there's a bridge that'll take you to the paddock. Make sure you have a wander around the paddock, loads of interesting stuff to look at. Stalls selling merch, bike bits, "lifestyle" accessories, etc. are mostly near the paddock side of the bridge. Probably worth watching at least one start from near the start line on the paddock side, for the noise and the smell.

You can walk around the whole circuit, but some sections (around the north) don't have footpaths so can only be traversed in between races, easiest done at lunchtime. The house on the inside of the circuit at Chicane Bourgoignie usually opens as a bar that does beer at a reasonable price and some basic food. There's also Taverne du Circuit, just south of there. Main beer tent is in the paddock, as well as some food vendors for your obligatory frites et mayo, and usually smaller beer tents along the start-finish straight. The infield area coming in to the last corner is a good place to watch the bikes or just chill out with a beer. You can take your own beer, if you can be bothered to carry it. The circuit beer tents all use a cashless system, so you'll have to get a card somewhere. (Apparently you can top them up from your phone now, you used to have to do it at machines.)

Chunnel tickets booked, helped by the £150 rebate I received from Eurotunnel, following their lengthy delays returning from Le Mans.

I have reversed my plans for the event. Originally, I planned to enjoy the weekend of racing and then head over to the western side of Germany / Belgium and Luxembourg, but that didn’t work out. Instead, I’ll leave a week earlier and come back via Chimay and the race weekend. I just need now to reconfirm my campsite booking at the municipal campsite in Chimay and let them know that I’ll be on a motorcycle, rather than in my motorhome.

I don’t do sociable with northern monkeys.

We’ll be riding across from Monschau on the Friday then away to Namur Monday afternoon.

That’s another weekend of alcohol abuse and tired old 4 strokes sorted.

Just catching up with this.

It clashes with a family holiday this year, but I will definitely stick it in the diary for next year.

Sounds fabulous, please take lots of photos.

I can guarantee you’d have a great weekend.

I can’t remember how many times I’ve been but it’s certainly more than 10 and probably closer to 15 so I know exactly where the bars are as does Paul (Eddie) because he’s been nearly as many times.
