Hello all,

Longtime lurker...

So, I'm aiming to pick up a mega. For a play bike/trackday bike...

I'm looking for opinions/direction. Would you buy it with or without ABS?

WL

WITH because the brakes are very powerfull

When I saw that ABS was available in 2008, I ordered one MM to replace my GS1150 (no ABS).
I'm very happy with this choice :thumb

No ABS on mine, as I just bought what was available and didn't want to wait.

Don't think I'd have specc'd a new one with it anyway. The brakes are powerful as Marc says, but I have found the feel superb, I only have short fingers, so it's always a bit of a reach and I always have the lever set close to the bar, but these only take two fingers to dial in as much stopping power as you need.

The ABS is switchable - so if you can afford it, I would get it. Switch it off for track days and leave it on for road rides :thumb2

One more thing : I think that with ABS, you will enlarge the number of futur clients for resale...

Hello & welcome....:thumb

Lots of threads (some quite heated) on the pros & cons of ABS, make good reading....

Thank you all for your responses.

Yes, I've seen the ABS debates. My position is simple, but this bike is complicated:

ABS on everything except where it adds too much weight or could get in the way. I'd get it on every bike except maybe the HP2 enduro (as the number of times the bike gets banged might cause this additional complexity to get in the way. I'd get it on every bike except maybe the HP2 sport because a race bike can out brake abs with a decent rider.

So the mega... is this bike a racebike for me? Well kinda. Is this bike so rough and tumble the complexity and weight are negatives? Maybe? In predictable conditions can I out stop the abs? Big time.

So yes, I've seen the debates, and I understand where I'd use abs (almost anywhere). BUY the enigma known as the MegaMoto... hum....

(PS, My K12GT has ABS and I fire it all day long. I wouldn't want it on my Husaberg. Nor on any of my race bikes. Unless systems advanced enough to regularly be able to out-stop me and my brake control)

But I think you have missed the point - you can switch it off when you want to use it as a racebike (and therefore you are concentrating hard enough to outperform the ABS) and leave it on when you are not trying so hard. The weight is negligible, especially compared to potential benefit.

For me, I ride an HP2 Enduro and if it was an option, I wouldn't have had a problem if the bike had ABS for road use

I think Mav is right :thumb2
For the ABS on MM, you can switch it off, so not an issue ;
For the weight, I know that I have a lot more Kg to loose on my body than on any specific parts for the bike :D
For the price of the ABS, I think it's nothing compared to the overall price of the bike. :rob
