The release date for City Navigator Australia v6 is 1 April (today).
Do not know when the ship date is but it is likely to be 6-8 weeks.

So if you buy CNA v5 today and unlock it then you will get a free upgrade to v6

CNA v6 has a lot more secondary rural roads and a large number of additional POI

Do not know yet

The v4 to v5 upgrade was US$125 (about AU$170)

Price for a new copy is currently AU$350

I think it depends on the date you registered your unit. Have a look at this thread:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38410&perpage=16&pagenumber=2

It turned out (more by luck than judgement) that I was entitled to a free upgrade, as I had registered my unit after a set date. If you registered before that date, then you had to pay. Haven't received it yet - but that's another story. :(

Ouch!

Size is just over 140 MB

Feck! compared to needing a 256Mb chip to put France onto!!
Size for size....and only one north, one south and one down-the-middle road...not much point in spending all these $ then :P ;) :D Wicked!!

Australia is about the same size as the US but has only 20 million people so 140 MB is not bad.

The US and southern Canada is 1.7 GB :P

Burnie,

Do you know when City Navigator V6 will be available in Australia?

Where will I be able to obtain it in Sydney?

Cheers

15 May -ish. Try about a week after

The upgrade CD is free. Email GME or your local dealer may have a few copies.

You need to unlock it on Garmins website http://www.garmin.com/unlock/
and depending when you purchased it, it is either free or US$125 (about AU$170)
You will need to enter your credit card details into Garmins website.

If you purchased on or after 1 April 05 then it is free.
If you purchased a SP2610 or Quest or iQue 3600 packaged with CNA and you have never registered it then Garmin will not know when you purchased it and it will also be free.

Note that it will be approx 140 MB so if you want all of Australia loaded then you will want to upgrade your memory card.

Info from GPSOZ;

City Navigator Australia v6 is starting to move thru the dealer channels.
The first unit I have seen packaged with it was a Quest.

Size of CNA v6 is 132.2 MB

Upgrade CDs are expected to be available sometime next week

PS if anybody in Australia is looking for a 128 MB Garmin data card then I am selling mine for AU$140
(they are AU$189 new and 256 MB are AU$299)

Hey Burnie,
Where would you suggest I go to check out GPS stuff in Sydney.
I am a complete noob to this and need to start out with the basics.
Does the version of city navigator that you are talking about operate on Garmin GPSs?
thanks

City Navigator is a 'turn by turn' autorouting mapping product that runs only on Garmin GPS receivers.
It is included with the Garmin SP2610 (BMW Navigator II), Quest and iQue 3600 packages.

GPSOZ has a website (http://www.gpsoz.com.au/) and is located in Mona Vale.

PS I work part time for GPSOZ

Update CDs should be available now for City Navigator Australia v6 and Garmin has just enabled the 'Unlock Update CD' option on its website

Just noticed that if you unlocked a second unit on the one registration code then it will only let you unlock the first unit for an upgrade (bugger).

Correction;
If you have both of your unlock codes used and you select 'Unlock Update CD' then it will only give you the option to unlock the original unit.

So you unlock (and pay for) the original unit and then you can select 'Unlock Additional Garmin Unit' and it asks for the serial number and it gives you a free unlock for the second unit.
