Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Is going 'well enough'.............enough though?

For some maybe, it is

Does the 'newness shine' wear off and you get used to it?

The extra performance is nice but in itself would not make me want to change. The electronics I could live without (my 08 has none, not even ABS). Although strangely I did like the cruise control. I didn't feel that anything else was an improvement over the earlier bikes. Also, I wouldn't buy anything that hasn't been around for 2/3 years and had the bugs ironed out.
My genuine response to the sales guy afterwards was that it made me realise what a great bike I already have :thumb2

This has the best gearbox ever, you can't even tell you have engaged 1st gear its that good.

My Triple Black GS is also sweet!-----------test rode a 13 plate GS and I thought that the gearbox was nothing short of dreadful and told the salesman so.
He replied by asking me to come back and try the new 2015 bike as it has better gearbox?

Well my 2013 LC is the best of the 1200 GSs to date by a long shot, that includes 45,000+ miles on my 2005 first generation 1200GS and 27,000+ miles on my 2010 twin-cam and now 20,000 miles on my LC. Put some miles on them before you whine too much :).

My early 14 plate GS WC (sept 2013) had intermittent clutch drag for the first 1500 miles, dealer fitted new clutch rod & unsure if it improved itself, or maybe with use..
But it's near perfect now, I get a slight clonk into first gear (just to let me know it's engaged) & no problems getting neutral, all the other gears are perfect & much better than my 11 plate twin cam which did occasionally find neutrals out of nowhere..

Well my December 2013 GS gearbox was fine (pity about paint finish to the engine!) as is my June 2014 GSA - slight clunk going into first but no worse than the 2 Triumphs I have in the garage ;)

This GS was a 11,000 mile bike for sale in the showroom. All the demonstrators were out to RT owners

I'd love to have a gander and a go on your bike as you do paint a perfect picture of it being the BEST and that i truly find it hard to believe .

:)

My gearbox seems to be getting better with age. Ive certainly never had the bad box that some people are claiming to have - never had clutch drag; bike doesn't jump if I start it in gear with the clutch in - rear wheel spins fine by hand in both neutral and in gear with clutch in ...

What I have definitely noticed is that my bike likes to be spanked. (So I'm being serious here and not taking the piss ... :P). It likes tearing about and having very deliberate purposeful gear selections. Hard on the brakes into the junction from speed .... a very calm but purposeful snick ... snick ....snick ..... It's absolutely perfect.
Take it into say London and bimble about though, and it's just not happy. I remember going up for lunch back in the summer, parked up, came back three hours later (clocks still there on this occasion :D) and it was an absolute pig for an hour on the way home. I wouldn't choose this bike to commute into town on that's for sure, but hairing around the country side ..... can't fault it.

Had a test ride on the 1190 the other day. I was of course really honing in on the gearbox and how it felt and remember feeling the odd walnut here and there coming down the box. I remember thinking that it was certainly no better or worse than my GS .... :thumb2

First 13 LC ok not the problems like many had .... 14 LC Adv terrible, loads of false neutrals and poor gear change ... Back to TC knife through butter ! Maybe try the 4cyl adventure thingy next year ... Although you can't beat the twin boxer ! :nenau

Hi, just read your post with interest. I have a 13 plate GS LC with the exact same symptoms, plus the clutch drags on mine. If I select first gear it engages with a clunk and I can feel it try to pull away. If i'm stopping I make sure I'm in neutral as I'm rolling to a stop.
Mines got 10k on the clock too but Ive only had it a month. Hopefully the dealer can sort it when it has its 12k service.

Don't hold your breath :)

Don't wait to tell dealer of your concerns, get it booked in NOW for the fault..

Too right
If you show up with a 'oh, while you're at it could, you look at this there might possibly be something wrong' attitude, they'll tell you that it's all fine. You need to walk in before service and *tell* them that there's something wrong and that you expect it to be sorted under warranty. Dealers are expert in sidestepping warranty claims (and indeed are strongly influenced by the manufacturer). You've got to stand up for yourself and make a proper 'fuss'.

There is no fix..and a senior sales member at a well known Northern dealership advised me they are not working on a fix,yet the problem persists and they (BMW) are hoping the heavier flywheel will sort the poor gearchange problem.

If you've bought the bike on a PCP you'll be OK as the bike doesn't belong to you,but if you've paid for it with your hard earned they'll not be bothered.

Personally I moved on,the wc gs in many ways is way behind the competition.

Steve
