My gearbox seems to be getting better with age. Ive certainly never had the
bad box that some people are claiming to have - never had clutch drag; bike doesn't jump if I start it in gear with the clutch in - rear wheel spins fine by hand in both neutral and in gear with clutch in ...
What I have
definitely noticed is that my bike likes to be spanked. (So I'm being serious here and not taking the piss ...

). It likes tearing about and having very deliberate purposeful gear selections. Hard on the brakes into the junction from speed .... a very calm but purposeful snick ... snick ....snick ..... It's absolutely perfect.
Take it into say London and bimble about though, and it's just not happy. I remember going up for lunch back in the summer, parked up, came back three hours later (clocks still there on this occasion

) and it was an absolute pig for an hour on the way home. I wouldn't choose this bike to commute into town on that's for sure, but hairing around the country side ..... can't fault it.
Had a test ride on the 1190 the other day. I was of course really honing in on the gearbox and how it felt and remember feeling the odd walnut here and there coming down the box. I remember thinking that it was certainly no better or worse than my GS ....
