Cotton buds dipped in unleaded works for me

Except I would spray the area between the fins with WD40 or Putoline 1001 (similar stuff) have a coffee then go in with the cotton buds
Thankfully now the 1150/1200's are too big for me so the F800GS & X-Country are easier to clean

Cotton budssome people just have too much time on their hands, talk about anal
Why not finish off with a nice dusting of baby powder too, you wouldnt want any chaffing between those delicate fins

Another cotton bud fan
I use them a lot on all my bikes
However I don't favour WD40 on a silver engined bike (or any other colour, in fact) as once the solvent has burnt off when the engines heats off the oil residue left, burns onto the silver paint and leaves a yellowy hue to the silver paint which can't be removed

Good and proper maintenance does not automatically have to include micro cleaning. But people can use their spare time how they like. I personally prefer to maintain the bike properly but not do work for for its own sake and to clean adequately but not clinically. When I want it super clean I'll pay someone like allyearbiker. So what(?) its a personal choice.
