Can't get my rear wheel anywhere near clean. Front comes up grand but the rear hoop is weathered and filthy looking. Today I tried a degreaser (jizer) and it made no difference at all. Any one got something industrial? Or any one powder coated the wheels? Pics please and thanks in advance shane

If by the Hoop you mean the bit the tyre hangs on then you will find it's anodised. To my knowledge there are no cleaners for anodised aluminium other than soap and water. You could try white spirit, but avoid any acid or alkaline products as this will destroy the anodising, which it sounds like has already started to happen.

I new someone who had cleaned his hoops with Autosol. Which in effect had polished away all the anodising leaving nicely polished aluminium. Looked great but a mine field for corrosion if he didn't keep at it. Autosol is great on chrome which is a lot harder than anodised aluminium. So definitely one product to be avoided, unless you want to go down that path.

Good answer, i'd say previous owner tried to 'clean' it with something too harsh. Defo corroded. So anyone got a pic of powder coated wheels on a gs?

I don't know if the wheels are the same, but I bought one of the ex BMW ORS 1200's last year which had non painted spoked wheels (not the black spoked wheels that come on the TB, but the same a the wheels on the current Rallye:rob), and they were in a right state when I picked the bike up.

I sprayed on SDOC100 power gel, left it on for 10 minutes, then washed it off with water and then washed the wheels with Zymol car shampoo. They came up as good as new, apart from all the dents and scratches caused by the off roading:eek::thumb

If you stay on tarmac, get a set of RT alloys with proper road tyres. Easy cleaning and sharper handling:thumb

Hammerite degreaser

here are the results - sprayed it on, and rinsed it off.

Only done a small section, so you can compare

I,ve used tons of autosol on mine and it hasn't affected them. They look like Steptoes shiny wheels.

Impressed with that hammerite. Gonna try that this weekend. Will give the autosol a go too and report back. Still think black powder coat on a black bike would look good also.
