Is there any way to make mapsource calculate the optimum route among a group of waypoints starting an finishing in the same place rather than doing the waypoints sequentially? I've had a look at it and the mapsource help file but I can't see a way of doing it?:nenau

TA :)

I have not tried it but maybe one of the online routers such as viamichelin or Google maps can do it first - then use that sequence of waypoints in Mapsource

I had a look at this yesterday and also did a little search on Google, nothing came up, its a feature Garmin should build in to Mapsource (amongst other things :augie)

Yip Ebbo I've drawn a blank as well. the only software that does this kind of thing seems to be delivery software as used by Ups Fedex etc.:(

Autoroute 2007 has an "optomise route" option that:

Optimise the stops on your route

When you optimise stops on your route, AutoRoute reorders the intermediate stops on your route so that your travel time between the start and end points is the most time-efficient.

On the Route menu, click Route Planner.
– or –

On the Standard toolbar, click Route Planner .

Create a route with at least four stops.
How?

Note If you do not designate a start or end point for your route, AutoRoute makes the first stop the start point and the last stop the end point.

Click Optimise Stops.
Click Get Directions.
Note If you have already gotten directions for your route, you don't need to click Get Directions. AutoRoute automatically recalculates the route and displays the new directions.

You can do it on the unit (in my case a 2610) but I don't think you can do what you want in Mapsource.

Thanks Taff. That works on the 2610. However, starting and finishing at home means that you have to add in all the waypoints as via's one at a time then the unit gives you the option of ordering the route to be most efficient. Wonder why this isn't built into mapsource?? :)

Must try the Autoroute thing John. I believe there is a way of converting these routes into .gpx format? :)

The application that you need to do this is ITN Converter, once you've saved the .axe as a .gpx and opened in Mapsource you will need to recalculate. The resulting route might follow slightly different roads, especially if there are a few options between points, but the order will be the same.
