Clock re-setting itself

Every time I start the bike the clock re-sets. Come to think of it the clock dissapears when the ignition is off.

Is there an obvious fix and is it linked to the power socket on the beak ceasing to function?

P.S. It's an 1150 GSA

The above and the connector under the tank or if you have a HID unit mounted too close to the RID it messes things up....as I eventually found out.

Have same fault, only more intermittent, some days fine, some resets galore!
No 3 fuse fine, battery fine, lost as to what next!

Fuse 3 is the standby power afaik. So when the power is killed it goes off. When started the load relief relay will also kill the power but when the bike runs it'll get its power through switched power.

Yeah.. was one of the early signs my battery was on its way out..I also was getting abs start-up faults. but was in winter which didn't help. changed the battery and all fixed.

BTW.. the optimate said the battery was fine. even though it obviously wasn't. In future I'll believe the bike and NOT that stupid green light. cause it tells porkies!

do a volt drop test - its probably your battery

the rid cct probly needs 9V or more and your batt is dropping below momentarily.

Sign of fuse 3. Weak battery doesn't ( usually) make the clock disappear entirely when the ignition is off


Butttttttt, i have had a couple of bikes where the clock runs off fuse 5 No, i have no idea why.

I had the same symptoms on my last GS; ignition off and clock disappears, ignition on and clock is at zero.

I checked all the fuses, replaced the battery, tried a different display unit, nothing.

Eventually I put it down to a wiring issue which I didn’t thinking was worth redoing. I learnt to live with it and renamed the clock a "trip meter"...

Yep, me too on my GS.

The RT's clock is working fine for now. Maybe it's just a GS thing.

Optimate is now indicating that the battery is 'weak'. Time for a replacement I guess.

Anybody know if there is an alternative to an Odyssey or are they worth the money?

I've seen the PC680 on Ebay for a lot less than NN are selling it, I'm guessing it's the same battery?

For what it's worth IIRC Steptoe considers the Odyssey as over rated / priced compared to the one BM supplies and Motorworks etc sells for £20 less than the Odyssey:

I always have an Odyssey battery on my 1150's, my Rallye bike and my KTM640ADV, never had a problem at all and I never put any of the bikes on an Optimate or similar charger. Fit it and forget it four 5 years

Just like my 4 and 5 year old original bmw gel batteries, only at considerably less cost.
