at 22000 miles, the clutch fluid went awol in S/E Poland,

learnt how to bypass the clutch switch which enabled me to start the engine on the starter motor and then bump the bike into 2nd gear with a good hard push (almost killed my mate pushing) and continued with clutchless gearchanges

10 miles or so later we got some dot 4 to fill the line back up, once bleed we continued as normal

everysince it has been fine and the speedo is now at 30,000 miles ready for its next home service,

What damage does DOT 4 cause, would rather carry one fluid for both brakes and clutch in the event of an emergency

Is there a common alternative to the BMW recommended clutch fluid when far from a BMW Dealer

It is supposed to be mineral oil, regular brake fluid is not compatible with the seals. Although it seems to have worked so far its probably best to change it. Mountain bikes with hydraulic discs generally use mineral oil, Magura and Shimano certainly make it. I believe even baby oil will do!

Most MTB brakes now use DOT fluid not mineral....
Citroen LHM suspension fluid, Magura Life blood or even power steering fluid are a reasonable substitute

Yup. Clutch fluid is mineral oil.
If you can't get the right stuff then any mineral based hydraulic oil will do ( go to a place that fixes trucks).

Do not use brake fluid- you'll fuck stuff up.
If, as you say, youve already put it in, get it took out again and flushed sharpish.

KTM dealers have it, not that that adds many dealers to the list!!

for the amount you would need I dont think a small bottle would add much weight to any journey
