Noticed this whilst cleaning the bike the other day. Appears to be from the clutch/gearbox area.

Not sure how long it’s been like this as don’t clean or look underneath the bike very often. :augie

No oil dripping but as you can see from the pics quite a lot of smearing.

Any thoughts as to the cause (gasket/seal etc) much appreciated.

:)

Had mine done last month. 2004 1200 with 15,000 miles (2nd hand purchase before I get a slagging for low mileage :D)

Bike out of warranty but Cannon in Braintree did the work with a 50% parts and labour contribution from BMW because of the limited miles. Two days is about right as well - mine was spotted during a routine service although I had noticed that the underside of the bash plate was very oily when I was fitting the remus headers.

Mine is being done soon under warranty. It was spotted by mechanic when I queried the clutch bite getting close to full release of lever. He thinks that it may have caused premature clutch wear. It's an 06 bike with 18K on it. THey want the bike for two days but will provide a free loaner. I think dealers are short of work at this time of year and are therefore helping customers find warranty work that they can charge to BMW :nenau

How much did it cost?

Hope i don't spread too much doom but mine have been changed 3 times in the last year. 2005 1200gs with 24k on the clock. This time all seals were changed and the second clutch apparently. I'm not holding my breath.

Could not agree more - I wandered in to Cannon on a Saturday and took advantage of their free collection and delivery plus valet offer in December. They could have taken the bike the following Thursday (they are shut on Mondays) - three days notice is unheard of!

Thanks for the quick response guys. Six months must be some kind of record of sorts I suppose…:D

Just for the record, mine had 26k on the clock when brought to dealer’s attention (Cannon) but BVM declined contribution/goodwill gesture towards cost of repair/replacement of seals (£260 approx) due to high mileage. :(

Bike was only three months out of warranty…
