Is it possible to inspect the clutch on my 2003 GS Adventure without taking the whole thing to bits? It's done 54,000mls now and I don't fancy taking it on a long-ish one if the clutch is going to pack in. What would you do?
Take off the starter motor (five minute job) and with a small torch look through the mounting hole and turn over the engine via back wheel (plugs out) and all will be clear. One of these little keyring type led torches are brilliant (OOPS) for this as they will shine right inside.

New,a clutch is about 6.5 mm thick and its minimum thickness is 4.5 mm.
Poking around the starter motor area will give you an idea of the plates thickness and also check for oil in the area.
Also check the clutch fluid colour.Should be clear;bleed thru if dirty.
