My 1300 GSA has developed an intermittent noise when pulling away when cold, sounds like two pieces of metal being rubbed together !

Only happens a couple of times and varies in time , i can feel a roughness through the clutch leaver. Then it cleared no sign of slipping after that .

Bike has been picked up and back at the dealer so waiting to hear the outcome, anyone else had issues ?

Without trying to sounds pedantic, a clutch is lots of pieces of metal constantly being rubbed together every time you operate the lever.

It could be that it's just not up to temperature with enough oil.

I presume you warm the engine up before just taking off ?

This has only just started in the last week, bike warmed up so and left to warm a little longer just in case. It only happens the first few times pulling away from a stand still and then not always the first time.

On one of the other groups someone said they had similar and the thought was it was caused by the hill start system . I have it turned off so not sure .

Will post a vid in a second and as the noise occurs the abs and i think its traction lights flash .

The hill-start system works by applying the brake through the ABS pump.

I can't see how it's related.

I thought the days of warming engines before driving off was long gone, modern oils and better manufacturing tolerances have effectively put paid to that, its more harmful to sit with an idling engine before pulling away

Modern oil help a lot with their multi grade additives. But they aren't anywhere near their best until theyre at their operating temperatures. The weight of an oil is actually specified at 100c.

The only thing which is being harmed by warming up your engine is the environment.

It takes time for oil to reach everywhere it's meant to be, at the temperature and pressure it's designed to run at.

Just heard from the dealer clutch pack on order !

That sounds like they're firing the parts cannon. Because that's all they how to do.

I wish i could figure out how to get the video clip on here . When it happens the traction and abs lights flash I cant see how they are linked .

The traction control and abs light will be controlled by the speed sensors. Nothing to do with the clutch. Unless the 1300 does something I'm not aware of.

Thats my thoughts as well unless its looking at engine speed compared to road speed.

I'm surprised you can hear anything over the racket the engine makes plus the whining ,the 1300 engine is one noisy fucker !

When it went in I actually asked them if it was ok told them it sounded like a bag of spanners !

This noise was even louder !

clutch on mine you can feel a roughness - as if its running aggressive friction material - and some noise when lifted

but if they are ordering new parts - maybe it was just machined to std BMW quality stds - aka 1930s rough and just about ready

The clutch on my 1150 is much better.
