While riding back from Wick today, I accelerated hard in top gear from around 70 mph. The bike behaved as normal but then the clutch began to slip. This is intertemittent and only happened a couple of times.
Is my clutch gone?
How long do you think it will last like this?
How much is a new cluch going to cost?
The bike is an 03 1150 GS with 20000 miles on it. I dont drag race or do wheelies or stuff like that, so I thought the clutch would last a bit longer than this.

Cheers in advance.

Mike

I'd have thought it would have lasted at least 40k. Unless it's having to pull a bit of weight :augie

Have you noticed any oil under the bike or any misting round the joint between the engine and gearbox? The crankshaft oil seal may be weeping and putting oil onto the clutch if you have.

Yes
It will get progressivly worse, difficult to say but I would say a couple of thousand miles at most
Don't know
There was a problem with some GSs of that era where the slave cylinder would leak into the clutch housing, contanimating the clutch and killing it in short answer. Mine did the same at 18k but was fixed under warentee.

hand gaurds are ok.
Someone on ADVrider suggested contacting BMW and seeing if they will foot some of the bill due to the low milage, but the bike is three years old. Do you think its worth a shot?

Definitely, get your usual/local dealer to contact them as well. My brake servo went at about 40k 31/2 years old and BMW paid the lot as a "good will" gesture... so it's certainly worth a try.
