I'm planning (I use the word planning in the loosest way possible ;) )a couple of european trips this year, the first one to Italy and I was wondering if my clutch will last out both trips.
I have noticed recently that it is biting at the end of lever travel which suggests its wearing ( unless it's cable stretch??) although there are no signs of slippage at present.
The bike (A 1998 1100 GS) has about 65K on the clock and I have no idea if this is the original clutch.

So, should I get it replaced before I go and if so, How long does it take and how much am I looking at spending?

Should I get the whole thing replaced or just the friction plate?

Should I buy a friction plate (motoworks sell a HD and oil resistant one) and take it with so I have one when the tow truck drops me off at some out of the way back street garage in rural Italy?

Or should I just go on the trip and cross that bridge if it happens?

Thanks for your suggestions :thumb2

As you know nothing of the clutch service history my suggestion is you talk to that nice Steptoe fellow, not a million miles away from you, with the intention of getting a pre-emptive change achieved resulting in much happiness all around.
Or you could just hang around for that elusive breakdown truck.

There is never guarantee! You could have New clutch but your crank seal or input shaft seal fail and you no clutch , so accept consequenses and enjoy trip .
