Clutch removal and replacement

I'm endeavouring to inspect the clutch and replace the Crankshaft rear oilseal on '79 R80/7. I'm going to buy a 12v impact wrench to undo the clutch bolts. But what's the best way to hold the flywheel still to torque them back up again? I gues I could jam a chunk of ally bar in the starter ring, but I imagine there's a better way....

But surely that bolts in to the holes that the clutch bolts go into.......?
I've just found a 12v impact wrench that alows you set the torque, Hope that might do the job.

I personally would not use an impact wrench to torque up those small bolts, you will have more luck snapping them off than getting them tight. Use a torque wrench if you really want it precise but I just do them up with the correct size socket.

From memory the locking plate goes into the engine casing cover in the holes that you unbolt the gearbox and not the clutch plate.

The rear seal you need some sort of tool to seat it the correct depth, it needs to be as near the original position as the one that came out. Measure the depth from the casing to the seal before you remove it

kenny's tool is good for doing up the flywheel bolts, but won't fit once the clutch is fitted. to lock the flywheel to do the clutch bolts up, i do this:

I have just done the rear crankshaft seal. Remember to block the crank from moving forward. The torque on the clutch bolts is quite low, 20 Nm I think. You will need something like Kenny's tool for doing up the flywheel bolts as they are 100Nm. Do not re use the flywheel bolts.

Ok lots of good info there, thanks chaps, though I'm not too clear about the cylinderical tool to "shape" and install the oil seal.
Praps I'd better have a word at Sherlocks when I go to get the seals.

I like the high tech tool for locking the flywheel while tightening the clutch, I might be able to master that one!
