Well after so many changes of mind I ended up buying a second hand set of varios, should arrive in a couple of says.

I watched quite a few videos and links from here on how to code your own key to the new lock, looks quite straight forward to be honest.

I do have one question I'm hoping someone will have the answer to, If I strip out all the tumblers from the locks that come with the new panniers will there be enough of the right type of tumblers to re-code my key, for example 1's 2's or 3's? or will it be unlikely or just luck? Failing that, apart from approaching BMW is there another source to obtain some more tumblers?

Thanks :)

i can't imagine you will be that lucky but most BMW dealers will swap out with the correct tumblers you need for free

If you have problems getting hold of the correct tumblers let me know as i have a good collection and can pop in post for you

I can help do the tumblers if you want and you should be able to get them working with your key while you wait for any shortfalls.

That would be excellent Bungy

For a short term measure you don't need to have a full set of tumblers in each lock. I think mine a short of a wafer or two, still, after 3 years.
