Has anyone colour coded the bit I've circled, and what approach did you take? I'm thinking take it off, strip off the fittings, so the lock and other black bits, and take it to a paint shop. Powder coating is probably out of the question, as it feels plastic? Many thanks in advance.

Got round to doing mine a couple of weeks ago. Got a second hand one from eBay which was actually in better condition to mine so kept it to go back to stock. Removed mine , sanded it down slightly, removed the key and taped up the other pieces and then just used several coats of Simoniz tough satin black. No primer or top coat needed.

Jez, tried taking the pillion footrests off today, managed to snap my Torx socket. Back to Halfords to get a replacement. Any advice on how to remove those buggers? Warm them gentle to soften up the locktite?

Get the best quality torx bit you can afford and be patient. Heat does help though

Thanks, I'll get the heat gun out.

I thought I hadn't scrimped and got myself these.

Lifetime guarantee, so replacement should be with me on Thu.
I've got plenty of Halfords advanced stuff and it's usually good quality. I used a torx bit in a large breaker bar when I've previously removed mine. It was tight 😲.

I've had too many fail in the past, it's not fact they have warranty, it's where it leaves you until you can get replacement. I've never had a Wera fail. Of any kind. Joker and Zykop are as good as it gets. Not cheap but you'll only buy once.

Rather than a heat gun, if you can, get a soldering iron on the end of the bolt, then once its nice and warm, try "rocking" the bolt back and forth. Don't go too mad though, as I've seen a few guys on the GS Facebook pages ask how to get snapped bolts out. If it still won't shift, and you have warranty, if all else fails, ask the dealer to get them out.

Got the seat frame back from the paint shop today, refitted all of the seat locking mechanism and added back to the bike. I'm so glad I took photos of the seat locking mechanism before I took it all out. Here's the result. Just waiting on the pillion foot rests to come back from the powder coat shop.

That looks great.
That's exactly what I'm going to do. The silver panels on my GSA look nasty

How much did it cost?

I powder coated the bars etc, rest was wrap and paint several years ago and its stood up very well. The area where the panniers fit has rubbed away and the odd mark where the bike has went down off the stand or what not. Ill do the cylinder heads and headers over the winter I think
