Come on, who's tested it today?

Making the assumption that standard ESA (auto ride height is extra or part of a pack..) will be as per 1250.
That is road/auto/dynamic PLUS high or low load. That is effectively six settings.
If reading the new spec correctly, it adds + 1,2 or - 1, 2 clicks each way on damping. Which means an extra degree of fine tuning.
?
It has always been one the things I appreciated with the 1200 and 1250, being able to switch between dynamic and road, depending on road surface and rider* mode ( *the rider!).
What I would like to see would be the ability to set pre load and damping incrementally and independently (back/front).

Could not find the high / low / auto on the standard bike
Just the option for road or dynamic
I would imagine there is some auto sorting when its doing what it does on the road but not the same as my 22 1250 TE
The dealer manager came and had a go with it started up and still only the 2 options

To me that reads as fully auto in road or dynamic.
Plus manual road or dynamic where you can add/subtract damping.
So at a minimum, that is 10 settings.

I get the fully auto bit, and the high low setting on the optional adjustable suspension
Also the ride height adjustment only with adaptive suspension option
Neither of us could get any other option on the standard suspension triple black demo bike, definitely no auto option
Reading the manual seems you may have to go to another screen to adjust damping
I'll have another fiddle with one soon

Thanks for posting the link. I read about the ACC functions in there, and there is some surprising stuff (to me) in there about a thing called "passing assistant". It seems that if you're using ACC, and you indicate to pass the detected vehicle ahead, the bike will automatically accelerate for you... I guess it might be OK on a motorway, but much less use on a road with oncoming traffic and other hazards.

Had a 60 mile ride on a TB TE with a top box on Tuesday in the piss down rain, plenty of room for my wife and me, seemed even roomier than my 1250. Lighter, couldn't really tell to be fair but did seem to be more agile at low speeds. The engine sounds very different; seems to knock now instead of rattle but goes well but so does my 1250 !Gearbox is an improvement and the quick shifter works marginally better.
What i don't like is the the TFT being closer to you and its looks bare almost like riding a naked, could look better with a tinted screen. The improvements are marginal in my view but I guess its just the evolution of a what is already very good bike.
I don't think its realistic to expect it to blow you away, its hard to improve on the 1250, it has but marginally imo.
My bike is over 4 years old with 20,000 miles and i'm ready for a change BUT to spec one the same as my 1250 add all the new luggage [slightly less capacity] inc tank bag
and its close to costing £15,000 to change, that needs a bit of thought.
We tried a Ducati MS on Monday ,weather was foggy and again pissing down so probably not a good day to impress but initial thoughts were i'm too old and lazy to put the effort in to ride it, too noisy and needs too many gear changes and revs to make it go, there's nothing else i fancy trying. The GS just suits my riding style these days, slow .

Shit that's a BIG chunk of change to err change

Agree completely. I had Halliwell Jones demo on Wednesday. Pick up booked 09.30hrs, got off forecourt 10.00hrs with a request to have it back by 11.00hrs for another booked test ride and put petrol in if I used much! Returned for 11.00hrs to an empty showroom and not a helmet carrying individual to be seen!

I’m 6ft plus and 120kg so not a delicate unit and it felt like being on a 125 again. Wind protection is non existent on standard bike but extra spend can put the screen it should have on. Seat is very comfortable but basic suspension is not a patch on my 1 year old/5000 mile 1250, rough roads comfort is non existent. Engine/gearbox is first rate and with the added lightness it does pull. Spec to same level as my current 1250 it’ll be £23500+ so I’m looking at £9000+ to change a year old bike that ticks all the boxes for one that doesn’t quite. Even adding all the bits to make it look right the seat/peg/bar relationship will not change and for a big lump like myself and I’d agree with one YouTube reviewer who said he’d still pick the current 1250 for trans European jaunts.

Oh and I got 1hr from Halliwell Jones, UsernameKate ( no offence to her) got enough time to do a fairly extensive Chester to Bala return video and presented her report wearing a very nice new HJ Motorrad jacket. Existing car customer here of 25+ years got sod all but the cold shoulder when I didn’t return full of fawning gushing praise.

Non owners of current gs models might be an easier sale and the smaller size/weight will please shorter/smaller pilots. Despite any shortcomings I’m sure it’ll fly out the dealers.

I’ll await the adventure model with interest as if it’s got slightly larger dimensions it might suit big lumps better.

Just got back from a test , bit of a mix up as double booked so only managed 40 mins as to fair the other guy that turned , due to time , I did not alter much , so off I rode , in wet , misty roads , unfamiliar and busy.
Engine , great , pulls like a train , smooth , power on tap and rapid.
Gear box , very smooth both up and down and nice as good as the multi V4 even at the low miles this one had done.
Seating , comfortable but did have to put it in the standard position as someone had altered it and it canted you forward to much for me .( I will have the high seat)
Riding position , great but again I would have liked the bars more forward but did not have time to alter along with the brake and clutch controls , but overall fine and as you would hope
Suspension , very good , but too wet and muddy to get the full picture , but works as you expect . The ride height was good and effective.
The bike is compact and light and turns well and feels half the weight of the 1250 for some reason and lower but think that's due to the fact I have a high seat on my 1250.
Pillion position fine for the wife , plenty of room and she felt similar to the 1250.
I will be booking a morning test ride as the 1 hour slots are not long enough to get a proper picture of the bike , as the dealers position is not ideal to get to good roads within the timeslot. This bike needs the addition time as it is so different in a familiar way but would like to get it on roads I know to get a good comparison , with no rain , muddy roads or fog and slow traffic , roadworks and the like .
Am I still having one ... Oh Yes , its a big change to an already great bike and feel its way forward for me now as the motor is fantastic and I haven't had chance to push it yet but can feel the potential and feel this bike is as good as they claim it to be.
This is a game changer for the Gs range even in the conditions I rode in .

Derekjhutton , not sure which model you rode but the electric TE screen is brilliant and when in full position no buffering , in low its still good as the side plastic deflectors work well.
The Trophy with the manual screen I must admit looks useless but off road would work well as its so small.

The modes and the new switch gear is confusing , but once you own one its a learning curve and will become second nature so this should not worry riders . on a 1 hr test its hard to get into sink with it but feel again its a good addition.

And there we have it.
One person says the wind protection is shite and the suspension not as good as 1250, plus the 1250 would be better on a long tour, then along comes Boxerlust’s UK rep who says it’s a game changer.

Which game has it changed ? Ta

What model were ridden , mine was a fully loaded Green Bogey version , some dealers offer different ones , Tyzer rode a TE as I did , not sure about Derek. You need to take a test fence dweller :D:D
Just re read Dereks , it was the base model ....and perhaps without the comfort seat but the Trophy plank..:unsure:

To all commenters, in fairness to HJ at Chester when I was waiting for salesman to sign bike back in his colleague said he would never have sent me out on the bike I’d been given as it was Billy Basic spec and my 1250 wasn’t. To give original salesman credit he did at first suggest the higher spec( as I later found out) model usernamekate got but I decline wanting to ride the blue one as that’s the colour I was planning to have. I’d actually written the spec I was planning to order and had it in my pocket but it remains there and may be used next if the adventure floats my boat.

Take nothing away from the boys in the fatherland though the build and finish is second to none.

Stick now imagine how you would have been blown away if it had 155 hp and a 24 liter tank...LOL And a decent sounding exhaust ! Cant wait for real mpg and roll-on side by side with the 1250 numbers as also the wet weight plus 3 kilos because you can leave a liter of petrol out and put a t'lithium battery in the 1250...LOL

No , it was perfect , I came away from the V4s , too much bhp , no torque and like racing a 125 in moto x , up , down , up , down , rev rev ..... The new one a balanced and realistic portion of usable engine power and no need for the extra BHP / Fuel /reduction in wheel size. Oh I wear ear plugs .. I feel the bike tho the bike not my ears.

Stick with another 1000 rpm on top and another 10-15 hp it would have been more fun...And with 4 liters more in the tank instead of 1 liters less there would be less worry about fuel...And with a deeper boom instead of the K75 turbine sound it would have been perfect ! The MS did not have too much power but had not enough torque and the handling was not good as there was too much movement which sapped confidence to go fast when I recall my ride on one...And the sound was embarrassing for a italian bike...But enjoy your new bike...Triple black looks good !

Thing is , once you chase the higher revs the bike looses its soul ( RE: The GS) agree the V4 has low torque , but that was due to the V4 and the high bhp . As for the handling it was dam good .
The sound was again not important for me , it was a great bike but you had to keep it at full chat which made it tiring and ultimatley flawed for me.

Certainly not ideal, having to keep going in the menu to adjust the screen or turn up the heated grips, can't understand why the grips and screen don't have their own specific buttons on the switchgear.
I think the rocker switch retains whichever setting it’s been used for after the menu screen reverts back to the speedo so will still adjust screen without having to go back through a menu + I think there is also a (customisable) secondary function accessed via a longer press so you could have the grip heaters assigned to that perhaps.

I read you can set several up as favourites, so makes the selection a 2 button press, similar to the ktm.
