Ok my tool did not seem to work. Trying an Allen key. I assumed the tool/ Allen key would slip into a Hole when at top did center? There must be visual markings I can use instead. I must b missing something IMG_7221.jpeg

I can feel the compress and I can feel and hear when the stoke is finished. Is TDC the point at which it goes from fully compressed to not under load? Sorry terms are not right.

I’m off to search for manual lines to get it right…

Edit got it - it’s just a lot more subtle than I thought

Do not worry about the precision of TDC when adjusting the valves. A clean plunger (screwdriver) down the plug hole will suffice. You are positioning the camshaft so that both the inlet and exhaust lobes are pointing away from the rockers. There is quite a range of crankshaft movement that satisfies this, you can do it by feel. Turn the crank until the plunger is oushed out, stop when it stops moving as you turn.
You need to watch the valve movements to xheck which cylinder is on compression, abd which is transitioning exhaust-inlet.
Do the side that is on compression, then turn the crank one while revolution and do the other.
If you were removing ir replacing the camshaft or camchain, or the balance shaft then the exact crank position would be important.
 
Thanks. Think I’m ok. I set the end float. The feeler guage only goes in a little bit right?

Also, I can’t get a .15 into either to inlet or outlet valve - am I potentially missing something or are these way Wayne’s way too tight?

Edit I’m ok. Inlets loose outlets maybe ok but will adjust thanks

Just buttoned up one side. Not sure I did it right after rereading you message. Transitioning exhaust inlet. That means the exhaust valves are the ones moving fully out while the inlets stay put right? I’ll have to check k again I may have done that in the wrong orders. Time fur a cup of tea

Sushi will keep an eye on things while I’m gone

I’ve read that AGAIN. I need to do the valves on the side under compression. Now I get it. I think black current jam on my toast today. Thanks mistacst. I defo need to do that side again. I did inlet and outlet without rotating the crank.

If I box cleaver I should only have to check two valves 😂😂

I adjusted them both on the inlet compression stroke and the exhaust valves were subsequently too tight. Progress

Help. Unless I’ve lost it completely, which is a distinct possibility, this bolt came out of the hole behind the right cylinder head. It will not go back in. I assume I can advance the stroke (it’s at TDC). And it’ll slide in. I’m confusing myself and I can’t understand why it will not go in? Any tips? Gonna replace my head lamp bulbs again and call it a day but this worries me a bit.

I think the valves are done properly.

Lads the Alen key I could fit in that hole will not go on either. I’ve rotated the crank. What have I broken??😡

Going back in with a torch in case it’s something obvious. It was all going so well 😡

That looks like the bolt that holds the cam chain guide in place. It did not need to come out.
Getting it back in will.likely need you to remove the camchain tensioner, in order to give some slack to the chain.
Can you photo the hole it came out of? Not too closeky, it needs some context.

I've been on with him and sent him a few pics and some guidance

he's got this far He will manage this fine when he calms down a bit!

AS you can probably guess his confidence has taken a bit of a hit
 
I was hungry and needed a pee.

I'm going back out to try again.

as for confidence, I'll gain that with positive experience.
 
Ah here. That was a bit like Apollo 11. Dr F sending me pic and ideas. In the end it was just that I didn’t have it flush. When lifting the chain to raise the guide, I was bringing it up flush to the side where the bolt enters. It needed to be flush with the other side. This was done by using a small screwdriver and then locking it in place with my chin and a big screwdriver. Glad that’s over. My missis despaired of me.

Put another way, I removed the wrong bolt. (As was mentioned earlier 🙈

Few beers this eve and collect the rest of the parts for the rocker covers tomorrow lunchtime.

I didn’t mention the good torch, the one I was holding between my teeth - I had to wrap the end of it in nitrile gloves and duct tape to get purchase 🙈🙈🙈

I really am very very grateful dr f.
