Comfy old boots bike service resto thread

Heading to halfords in the morning. I'm going to get some of this brake fluid. Seems closest to the Bmw spec.

Some mukoff motorcycle cleaner is on special and get some heavy degreaser for the really nasty areas under the bike that I haven't even looked at yet. I'm really hoping the oil filler caps new rubber washer will stop the oil leak but at this point nothing will surprise me. I've got these aftermarket bling carbon fiber rocker cover 'covers'. Lad who serviced it last time said they were a bit of a mare to put on. I may just leave them off if needs be. New rocker cover gaskets will go in, as will new plugs. Motorworks kindly added two new rubber seals that go round the main spark plug alley. Gotta hand it to them, they thought of everthing!

Also, I have just had a bit of a play with the gs911. It's fully functional. I'm looking forward to having a proper nerd out with it. I love watching the real time values etc when it's running. I'm such a nerd! Her self is away tomorrow and Friday with her mum, so I can just crack on. really hoping the brakes don't break my heart. ba doom tish!

Right let’s do this.

I managed to torque this nut up and it only moved the pivot pin a tiny bit. I’m hoping that is ok. IMG_7035.jpeg

I used the wrong gear oil in the final drive. The stuff I used was for the bin dated 2017. 😲. Guess I’ll do that with the good stuff. I’ve more brake cleaner and fluid. IMG_7033.jpeg

Don't buy muck off.
Go to Becton Dickson and get a drum of Traffic Film Remover. It's what they use in car washes.
Dilute it 20 to 1.

The nut inside the final drive that the drive shaft goes on to
Yes. It’s torqued to 140nm. I ended up buying some monkey juice but top tip about that car washer cleaner. I’ll pick some next time I’m passing.

In case anyone is interested, this is how the seat locking spring fits in. Heavy rain here. So I’ve put the sun parasol up over the bike. 🤣IMG_7037.jpegIMG_7040.jpegIMG_7039.jpeg

I’m stumped. Can any of you help?IMG_7042.jpeg

Edit figured it out. The parts fiche is wrong

If the bottle unopened i would use it but your shout.
Yes unopened. Think I'll leave it where it is! It's tricky to get the oil in there!

Listen, if anyone could help I could really use an accurate parts fiche for the silver tray the seat sits on to. the max Bmw one isn 't accurate and I've quite a few parts unused here...thank

Haynes is t much use either. It’s saying the luggage rack has six bolts. Mine only has four

Anyway, it’s all buttoned up now. There seems to be a few non oem bolts but it all went back together in the end. The sun oarasol is doing a good job of keeping the rain off!! My Mrs suggested that. What a woman 🥰

Also our cats are now neutered and allowed explore in the garden for the first time. They are helping and not phased at all by the rain!

I’m letting with a worrying amount of spacers etc. suspect they might be for the luggage racks for the boxes IMG_7056.jpeg

Not sure where to attach the remote preload adjuster for shock. Rear brake reservoir seems the logical place but it was mounted on the luggage racks beforeIMG_7074.jpegIMG_7073.jpeg

Back seat works fine. Front seat will not latch. Lies it look right in there? Maybe I missed a spacer or something? IMG_7077.jpegIMG_7076.jpeg

Owen, would you mind trimming back that white tie wrap close to the top of rear shock. Badly cut tie wraps are a pet hate of mine and people are injured all the time from incorrectly trimmed tie wraps. Use a craft knife. Couple others as well maybe. Thanks. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: ;)

Your gas! I've quite a lot of them to trim. Still have to put one on the front of the swing arm gator.

I've lost the bolts for the rear brake. No idea where they are, so I can't drift out the pin on the caliper. I'll buy some tomorrow.

I degreased under the engine, so nice and clean.

Tomorrow is bleed the brakes, get back brake sorted, do valve check and gaskets and spark plugs and hopefully replace the bash plate and install new crash bars and fit aux lights on them.

Oh yeah, gotta buy a new head lamp bulb. I've another LampF warning. Like I've come full circle.

Then I'll tidy the cable ties. lol

End of business today. I am dog tired and I think my diverticulitis episode is escalating - fingers crossed if I end up in the hospital again it'll be the day before I go back to work lolol

I should have bought three bungs shouldn't I? facepalm - they are outrageously expensive too.
