Comfy old boots bike service resto thread

Bike looks good. Bash plate on Hexhead always cracks me up, 4 fixings, three different tools needed.
Thanks John, that means a lot. No idea what I'm getting into with the bash plate and the bars.
Did I mention I hope to give the screen a bit of TLC too? Anyone any suggestions on products etc?

also need to change the gear box oil. Hate the stink of gear oil

Your gas! I've quite a lot of them to trim. Still have to put one on the front of the swing arm gator.
I should explain... imagine reaching under a raised floor in a comms room to fish cable through and there is tons of cable bundled together and some not so bright spark has cable tied them together and left about 5mm protruding and cut at an angle. Run the back of your hand across the sharp end, draw some blood etc etc

It would be a sacking offence if I had my way. There are special tools for cutting tie wraps.

well I'll meet you in the middle and cut them flush with a sharp snips!

Ok let’s get to work.

I found two bolts for the brake caliper. I’m going to bleed the front circuit first. It’s a bit early to be tapping out a seized brake pad bolt. No time at the weekend. My uncles funeral is tomorrow and I’d say I’ll be hungover Sunday.

Brakes bled. The master cylinder is the thing making the squish sound which is logical.

Gasket not great. Sealant was used. Should I use a new Stanley blade and remove the rest?

I’d like to remove the bling rocker cover cover. Not sure how to do that. Seems gasket sealer was used and I don’t know how to get the bolts out? Besides which I don’t know what they are covering g.

What do my plugs tell you? I don’t have a rashers.

Lower coil shower signs of decay.

It’s raining again. Thank god for the sunbrella

Also where do I stick my special m8 tool to lock the bike at tdc? Edit. Figured it out. Time to bend this

Plugs

Obviously I need to check the other side but if the coil is elderly 😲 might that result in the plug being sooty and oily? Lot of deposit on the top?

Edit added better photo.

Man, it’s raining cats and dogs. It’s the real soft wet stuff. Everything gets wet and damp. Bike is staying dry which is good.

This is why you NEVER EVER trust AI. I asked it to point out the end floats 🤣🤣🤣😲😲😲😲BC4A92B1-10B5-40A5-9417-A77368D583C5.jpg

I'd leave the covers on. They could be covering up a nasty gash.
No just a really bad paint job 🤣. Just to say thanks to dr Farkoff for some solid advice. Much appreciated big man🙌

All these rubber bungs need replacing. 7/8 in awful condition. I’m hoping Duffys have them in stock. Nothing threaded thanks be. Going to check the valve clearances now.

Yeah, it’s funny that makes me laugh because you know we’ve been doing up the house and prioritising doing that as opposed to get married and when the bike came off the road there I said to basically look I just spent another couple of grand doing this up or you know I buy a new one so then I showed her the price of a New and she says if you buy a new one we will never get married ha ha

Duffys have lost my parts business. 90 minute round trip. They didn’t have what I wanted in stock. The parts guy was just disinterested and borderline rude. Went to the local car dealership, had great chats with a young guy about getting his bike licence, got a 10% discount and a smile. Job done.

Gonna change the gear oil and replace rear pads and button up the rocker covers until Monday. Had enough for the moment.

I don’t know what it is about rear brakes. Takes me an age to figure out what goes where. Rocker cover etc next week and it’s gear box oil and new bars time! Few small electrical things to today along with zip tie trimming for Landmark John. Hope to have new lower coils end of next week. Few pix

I am glad I’m nearly finished. It’s been non stop since the 10th 😲. Learned a LOT. Enjoy your weekend.IMG_7193.jpegIMG_7194.jpegIMG_7199.jpegIMG_7200.jpegIMG_7201.jpegIMG_7202.jpegIMG_7196.jpegIMG_7195.jpegIMG_7191.jpegIMG_7190.jpeg

The plugs look normal, I'm sure I read here somewhere that the bottom one is usually a bit sooty.

How did you get on with TDC locking tool? I never managed to do that, not sure if I had wrong size bar or couldn't find the hole.

I ran out of puff John. I found the entry point. I’ll save that for next week when I get the rocker cover rubber bits. Unlike real life I’m wondering will it fit in 🤪
