Being new to the GPS world i have just ordered a Garmin 2610 as everyone is telling me that it is a good value basic unit.
People are also saying get a 2 GB compact flash card.
What type of card do i need i.e. ultra 2, extreme 3 or just a normal one?
all double dutch to me but i want to get the correct one!

thanks,

You don't need any sort of high speed cards as the 2610 doesn't actually read the card very often.

But do buy a decent brand like SanDisk as they have been known not to work with some cheapo cards.

Copy here and there

I think the easiest way would be to get a compact flash reader/writer and copy the files from the original card over - but what's the point! With a 2Gb card you can hold all of Europe - you just need Mapsource to build the map files for you (and then transfer using the read/writer)

I too have a 2610 ... and have just bought a cheap <£15 2Gb card (search the threads there are a few on this subject).

Will use the provided 256Mb card as a backup (with my routes corridored) ... just in case an will update to sandisks in about 6months when the ultras or whatever go below £20
