concealing/removing "Not for road use"

It's also worth pointing out that the law has only changed with respect of an MOT requiring either an "E" mark or the OE manufacturers mark and it being down to the testers discretion..
this is different to Con and Use regs (Road legality) and is still an offence to run a non marked can no mater how quiet it is or whether or not your local MOT man passed it 5 mins ago...;)

also...polished out isn't a problem, but those GASH stock on E-marks are deffo perverting the course etc....:thumb

I have the same exhaust system as you, but here in the South I haven't heard of any bike exhausts being inspected. I'd like to remove it in case I am ever stopped abroad.

That's a superb job,I'll have to goto my local hardware store for that attachment., I was going to try the dremel grinding stone, glad now I didn't, 511 it is so.

Did we meet on the March Fish Dash?

Every exhaust I ever checked that had had the 'not' removed, or otherwise markings played about with were so bloody obvious that it became very difficult for the asshole to pass the attitude test :eek:

The "not for road use" on a remus can removed very very easily and you will NOT see a mark.

It seems as if it's designed in the manufacture to be removed :augie

If you were on the adventure then yes - I remember speaking to someone with the same system - my memory for names is shockingly bad.... :blast

Bit like the Akropovic on my 800GS then Neil ;)

Full road legal markings, the baffle held in by a small bolt which has a tiny spot weld to secure. Good fitting socket and out she comes. To be honest I didn't like the sound with the baffle removed, but with the said baffle sawn in half it makes a loverly sound.... but not noisy at all, and gives no appearance at all of having been 'played' with :eek:

The standard Akro is actually quieter than the standard exhaust fitted to the F800GS.

The day's I'm talking about really were in the eighties when 'Not for road use' was well stamped in to the metal. The same marking these days, as on the Remus cans, is lightly etched and as you say probably designed to be able to be poslished out :eek:

My insurance on the Dakar made a point of informing me that the bike would not be insured without an legal stamp on the exhaust :blast:blast

I've never experienced this before but the standard cans went back on anyway cause the Supertrapp was too loud :eek::eek::eek:
 
Clauses

Most insurance has a clause buried in it that states, the vehicle has to be "fully road legal". Ie, even a "doctored" end can, means the insurance is not valid, so if you crash with one on. And the insurance valuer writes up the details ( and they are trained to spot tampering) they can negate your insurance be warned..

And they have a pretty big insentive to do so, with the likes of a new GSA etc, with its high costs. So be warned.

When I ditched my Catalytic converter and put in a remus y-piece, I had to declare it on my insurance. As a biker up the road had his new (At the time) R6 written off in an accident, only to find he was not insured as the end can was not road legal and (according to the insurance co) gave a power increase to the bike.
He wound up narrowly avoiding a jale term. So is it really, really, worth it?

(All the above said, I actualy personally think a loud CAN, can be safer as it lets deaf beatbox traffic know you are coming, but hey, we live in the land of lawyers.:rolleyes:).

I've still got the genuine BMW silencer fitted on my 1150, with a Y piece. Can't be doing with the noise from a remus and Y piece after a few minutes, makes your head spin after riding 500+ mile days.

I suppose it's all right if all you do is ride for an hour to the burgervan on a sunday and want to sound fast . :D

I must be getting old, I took the Y-piece off and went pack to the cat and original silencer after about a thousand miles of not enjoying the noise...
