I’ve recently bought a 2024 RT and am trying out the Connected Ride App (CRA) having previously dabbled with it on earlier GSAs but not been very happy with the performance. On the several rides I’ve done since getting the bike I’ve plotted routes using MRA and have successfully followed them using CRA, no loss of connection
Compared to the Garmin XT which I have used for some time, the App is a bit of a faff when starting - open the app, select the route, press go, wait for bike to connect ct, place phone in cubby hole and then commence ride. If I need the phone for something prior to the end of the route then the process starts again. As I use my phone as my camera it could become a nuisance
Question - If I acquired another phone to use exclusively with CRA could I, during a ride, leave it in the cubby box on charge and if I stopped mid-ride would it switch on and off with the bike ignition, starting and re-starting the app as necessary … or would I have to take out the phone to manually open the app each time i had switched off the ignition and wanted to continue the route?
Apart from the obvious big advantage of a second phone - security of the main phone by having it about your person - are there any practical advantages to the second phone set up
