My last couple of tanks of juice have yielded around 30 MPG  This seems a lot for a completely standard 1100. I have hooked up my mulitimeter to the diagnostic plug and everything is working according to the fault codes. I cannot get the CO below 2.5%, bike starts and runs okay apart from blubbering like the choke is on, back of bike is sooty, I measured the resistance of the injectors at 15.9 ohms, TPS is at 0.385 valves are spot on, balance is good, air filter is clean, brakes are not dragging, oil and air temp sensors swapped, no difference, running out of ideas.

stewart.i,m presuming the front of the bike is sweep:D.joking apart mate have you tried lowering the tps setting and taking another co2 reading?i,m under the impression when the tps setting is lowered the co2 reading drops.but then i might be just talking a load of s--t.who knows

Have you tried another CO pot ?. They have a habit of giving up.
Or another TPS unit.

I have a couple of CO pots here, they both adjust the mixture up and down but not low enough, when I chose to try a range of TPS voltages 0.345-0.390 all I got was incredible surging at the lower end, I have contacted a local place for injector servicing but they have not got back to me yet. Not tried a TPS yet though.

ONE of the symptoms of a TPS gone bad is very heavy fuel consumption

That is worth knowing thanks Steptoe :thumb2 I am currently thinking that I have turned the CO pot too far and forced the system into limp home (rich) mode, I am going to reset the Moronic after backing the pot off a couple of turns and seeing if I can prevent it from entering the rich mode before I can adjust it, I will have another try at counting the waving needle on my multimeter too (very wet forecast tomorrow) so a little garage time is in order.

On a run I get 42mpg and the best I have got is 49mpg out of my S Type 2.7twin turbo Jag.:D

Another symptom, I ran some errands today, started out with the bike running pretty nicely once warm, not blubbering too badly either, coming home its absolutely pishing it down, the bugger actually had the cheek to stall on me even when fully warm, are the HT leads replaceable on the 1100s? or is it an end to end replacement including caps?

HT leads are replaceable - check the resistance of them. Can't remember the value off the top of my head, maybe 5 ohms ? see how they compare with each other.

The plug leads gave me 5.9 and 6 ohms respectively, still it gave me the opportunity to polish the coil :D and clean a few bits under there, I am awaiting delivery of a diagnostic dooberry which will fit the bike and perhaps shed some light on it.

Hi Stewart,

try as a might can't get the 800GS to drop below 65MPG :augie

hope you get it fixed soon

Tim

i do not belive you polished the coil that would not be in keeping with the general apperance of your mobile dirt collector:augie:D

Thats okay Andy it cannot be seen :D
After trying many things I am running out of ideas, so I purchased a fault code reader from Moto Bins (Very fast delivery, I will write a review of its performance once I have used it a couple of times) I connected it up and ran the test of my Motronic, it came out with no faults, so all parts of the system that can be electronically tested are good, it just seems that the CO pot cannot adjust downwards enough to get me to where I want to be, discussing the matter with wise men has led me to suspect that my fuel injectors may be dirty (thus matching the rest of the bike :D) and so I am going to get them ultrasonically cleaned by my local ASNU place.
watch this space.

Possible good news today, I have hardly ridden the bike since the Injectors were serviced, today I took the bike out for a warm up ride, blubbering and eight stroking my way around the area chucking out plumes of sooty smoke, I returned and popped the CO probe up where the sun never shines, eventually fitting a spare pot and moving said pot to where I could actually see the screw I found the point where the pot seems to go from low to high readings, adjusting in tiny increments I reckon I have found the lowest possible point, I now have a reading of approximately 2.5% CO, higher than I would like but as low as it goes, a roadtest reveals the sooty smoke to be gone and the bike seems to run a lot better, heres hoping for better than 40 mpg, if there is a lesson to be learned from this it is to service the bloody thing and ride it :D

stewart good to hear you,ve got a result mate:thumb.now is there any chance of popping round mine and sorting my bag of spanners out:)

why don't you have a day in London... and let Steptoe sort it. To be honest.. I would've done this ages ago had the original problems with my bike not been sorted...:augie
