Conti TA2

Yeah ... I wouldn't say that they were skittish at all - I think they're a very good tyre. My point is, (and this conversation regularly comes up..) that any 'adventure' tyre is still a compromise over pure road rubber, albeit that compromise is pretty small. And the track day showed that - it's no coincidence that when pushed to the limits, the only two grip failures were adventure tyres. That could be a number of things - is the compound the same between say a road attack and a trail attack?? (Let alone the sport attack) is the profile just a little bit flatter giving you a smaller footprint when leant over? Bigger tread (especially on the edge of the tyre where you need it most in this limit pushing experience..), stiffer carcass giving less squidge when you need it?

Who knows, but I still don't get why some peepes choose an adventure tyre over a pure road tyre because of looks, when they have absolutely no intention of going anywhere other than tarmac. That to me seems daft.
I wish I could find some full on road rubber for the 1190r but my 21" front limits my choices ....

Great tyres.

Fitted a new set to my 950 SuperEnduro last year and have worn them out with our Ireland trip and then RDGA so about 5000 miles.Rear is fucked and front is tearing a bit but they make a bike that shouldn't handle do so amazingly well,as Jumpjim will vouch for chasing me up the Col du Turini on his 1190 !!

:D

Another set going on this week.

met a guy last week who'd damaged that corner of his petrol tank - a new one is £1K apparently

Bloody hell! Certainly with the adventure style stuff that is going to get used and abused - it's a no brainer ... !

.....a few more miles now

I can't believe how much better the bike rides with these tyres

Turns in quicker & corners faster - so much smoother

Can't believe I struggled on with Tourances for so many years - feels like a different bike now

Time passes. Things change and improve.

What was once great starts to show it age and it's limitations are thrown into stark relief against newer and better things.

A bit like bikes really :augie

new tyres always feel better than the old knackered ones you've just taken off.

And some things are old but keep doing the job well enough, much like women!

It's nice to look at a newer model, but when you factor in the cost of changing, how long the improvement will last until another new model comes out and the realisation that you are really too old to make the most of the performance advantage, it sometimes makes sense to stick with what you've got :D

I had the same thing, have a google its quite a common occurence. Conti replaced my front free of charge even after 8k!

had several pairs on 1200GSAs. great feel and grip, wet or dry.

i now have them on the 1190 where they are just as good....

....except they now wobble on slowing between 50 and 40. only if i take my hands off the bars - so i don't :D

Yes and they sent replacement to my tyre fitter. Took 2 Days and they wanted my old tyre back. Never heard from them again

i contacted them and got a reply - they are not interested, and seem to be saying it's normal wear.

so it's normal to expect you Trail Attacks to produce a weave at 4000 miles. i'll choose my next set of tyres accordingly.

At the BMW Club trackday at Cadwell on Monday the fastest guy in my group was on a new 1200GS with Conti TA2s which I thought was quite impressive (both for him and the tyres). We had a dry morning but damp afternoon.

I think a lot of the reported wobble is in the tread design?
Since my track day at folembray (which is pretty much a clockwise oval with only two or three easy left corners) the bike wants to slightly lean to the right in a straight line. I've had a look at the tyres, and whilst it's no surprise that one side is worn more than the other, the way the tread forms on the front, and the exaggerated cupping it then makes, it seems to exaggerate wear compared to other tread designs ...

my thoughts too.

the way the tread is designed results in pronounced cupping of the blocks in a continuous uneven wave around the circumference of the tyre.
