Continental TKC 80

Hi

Going to stick a set of Continental TKC 80 on the GSA for a change.

I am off to Harris for a long weekend and hope to get on the beach etc with the bike.

Question is, when I come back are they ok on the road. I know they aren't as good in the wet and that they are noisy and they don't last as long but are they fun to try out ?

Not using the bike as much these days so though they would be a giggle ?

They're great on the road, especially in the dry. After a few hundred miles, they start to roll a little smoother, making them a little less vibey. They're plenty capable of pretty having their chicken strips taken off

Very good on the road however depending on how you ride they won't last long . I've just killed a set in 2.5k mind I was riding like a tit :-D

After 40'000 on TKCs I changed to Tourances. I miss my TKCs. IMO they do everything you need them to do. As said above 'once run in' they are great in either wet or dry.

I get as good a mileage from them as I did the Michelin Annakees before them (Annakee mk1s. Puncture prone imo) I was consistently getting over 11'000 from the rear and upwards of 14'000 miles from the fronts. Now, that is mostly steady riding and I will always use the whole tyre, right down to the limits. Please don't assume I ride slowly and never go out of town. I'd say my riding is much the same as anyone esle's, only I don't take prisoners.

You will find that they are best if you are relaxed in your riding style. Some say they make the bike weave. But I recon that's because they must be holding on too tight. Foot scraping on you favorite roundabout is easily possible, even in the wet if you're confident enough. 90mph with panniers up the Stelvio is equally possible too. Yes they are more vibey than conventional tyres, but that's a trait of knobblies. After the first couple of hundred miles you'll either get used to it or you won't.

The TKCs will give you all the confidence you need off road. I'm not too great off the tarmack personally and they do my confidence the world of good.

TKC's are grossly underrated tyre's, I use them all the time on a GSA. the only downside is long motorway stints at high speeds (80ish) 2 up, other than that a good all round tyre. I've had no problems. ????? That's Done it now!!!

I've seen 8500 miles on a set of TKC's from one of the guys on an Alaska trip a couple of years ago and they got a hard time. They were well and truly shagged at the end though!

Yeah, they weren't feeling great... Also too much commuting so getting pretty squared off...
