Chuck, Yorkie, Many thanks I am convinced. Biking is a soul thing and that tips the scales for me. Interesting about the repacking. No one has mentioned that. Is it problematic, what do you stuff it with? Brillo pads!!

I've ordered the system now so no going back! Thanks everyone. any advice on the packing of the cannister gratefully received.

Cheers David

The Remus titanium exhaust is great! Particularly the low-pipe version so you can get more volume out of your left pannier.

But, you have to repack the canister. How about the Staintune exhaust?

Comparable cost and quality, but no re-packing required.

I beg to differ. My Remus titanium can requires no re-packing. In fact, I doubt that there's anything in there to re-pack, other than air. Sure you're not thinking of the Two Brothers can?

Thanks Steve, The repacking thing is new to me. I understand the Remus Revolution, which I have ordered, only has a detachable baffle, other than that I think it is straight through. The guy who raised it was from USA so maybe their emmission regs are more stringent therefore more than just fresh air occupies the can.

Cheers David;)

standard vs remus+chip

hi.i have a y piece,bb chip and remus road can,it does make a difference, the chip can be set for std.race+y piece, it has 8 settings.but my mpg is down 120-130 urban,160-180 mot+duel carr, got 12000m service not long ago and mech says it was running to rich and 1500m later its still the same mpg.www.bbpower.de gives you figures on bhp+tor.

Thanks for that. I will miss out on the chip for the time being. I have heard more problems about chips unless absolutely spot on. I will leave it at Y piece and end can and let the motronic 'brain' sort it out. Things were so much easier in the old days of carbs, jets etc. Hi tech is OK but it does design out innovation. Now when I had my T120R pre unit Bonnie ahh......, them wert' days lad!

Cheers all. David

Do it

Having heard Gauloises' 1150 go up the road with a Rebus can, all I can say is do it. Sounds like a helicopter - deep mean throbbing noise (steady now)

A Rebus system!! Damn, I've ordered a Remus! Hope it was a typo'

You can't beat getting you wukin furds muddled!! Maybe he has a bad cold!!!

:D

And old Uncle Rebus told the Brer Rabbit stories in 'Song of the South'.

One final point, I think, before spanner wielding. Can anyone advise on the removal of the Lambda sensor from the OE Cat? Does it turn through 360, 180 or just 90 degrees before it can be removed. I am concious of the wires that will only stand so much twisting I reckon. Also once fitted with the new system is there any further adjustments to do? One thread on the ADVrider Yank site suggests turning the ignition on and giving two sharp twists of the throttle. Is all this just folklore or what? All help gratefully received

Cheers david:D

If u unplug the 02 sensor from the loom and unclip the cable u dont have to worry about twisting it. The plug is located under the tank on the righthand side, u have to move tank to get at it but its not that much extra work.

David,

if I remember rightly, it's at least a couple of full turns to remove the sensor. If you're particularly worried, I think you can trace the wires back and disconnect them at the other end.

And it won't hurt to do a TPS reset. As you say, just turn on the ignition, do two complete throttle twists and switch off.

Happy spannering!!

Steve, don't you have to remove fuse No 5 for 10 secs first, or something, to do that re-set? Never done it, but I seem to remember reading that somewhere...

MikeO:confused:

Yup, He's right.

Remove fuse 5, replace, switch on ignition, turn throttle flat out twice, then start.

Wish I could reset my brain that easily :D

I think removing fuse 5 is for resetting the motronic, and I don't think it's necessary for the TPS. Won't hurt though...

Steve.

The 02 sensor and fuse 5

Once again, Many thanks for the info, far better than a Haynes manual! Can I just clarify on this fuse 5 removal. Does one remove it with the ignition on or off? Sparks are not my strong point but I can't make the link with removing and replacing the fuse before the ignition is switched on. Also, forgive me, what does TPS stand for? How is it different to the 'motronic' gizmo's?

Cheers folks, bloody thing still hasn't arrive yet even though promised by last Tuesday!!

Dave,

remove fuse 5 with the ignition off. The motronic is permanently live, so pulling the fuse cuts the power and resets it.

TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor - it's the gizmo that tells the engine how much welly you're givin' it when you twist the handgrip thingy. Basically, you're re-calibrating it by giving it full twist a couple of times with the ignition on.

Steve.

Steve, Many many thanks it is now very clear. Apex tell me the system has been despatched today so all being well, tomorrow, the GS grows horns!

Cheers everyone for all the advice. I will let you know the results

All the best David:beerjug:
