Hello everyone,

I have had a small coolant leak for the past couple of months and the local dealer can’t fit me in until Saturday 9th November. The leak appears to be quite minor, no spatter and just a drop or two on the garage floor every now and then. The coolant in the reservoir reached minimum level only a couple of days ago and I’ve now topped it up to maximum. From research on the forum, I suspect the issue is a defective water pump. This is backed up by the fact that the engine feels hotter than usual when idle, although it never exceeds a temperature of 100c in the worst of traffic. The fan seems to kick in earlier too, but it must do its job as I haven’t had any warnings thus far. Today I’ve also noticed that the large pipe going into the water pump is kinda ‘sucked in’ instead of nice and round (if that makes sense).

My question is, is it safe to continue to ride if I keep an eye on the coolant level and top up if necessary until I can get the bike checked? My commute would be a right pain without the bike and I have a little social ride coming up on Sunday, about 80 miles round trip that’d be a shame to miss…
