Has anyone else had problems fitting their rear corbin?
Can`t get the rear seat to lock, I have tried washers under the original BMW bracket but still can`t get it to lock down.
Front fits, no problem.
Help please, before it ends up through the garage window!!!

Tight fit !

The corbin will fit but it is a VERY tight fit. I would be a little wary about the front section fitting too easily as this may be obstructing the rear.
Make sure the front is in the position you want before trying to locate the rear, my rear only fits with the front in the lowest setting.

Tip - when fitting the front, slide the back of it in first, then locate the front, then the back catch.

If this doesn't help, theres always eBay !

Sitting on it normally does the job... if it's a tight 'fit' it will need some persuasion to lock.

Sorted!

Once again my magic fingers to the rescue. The plastic 'sheath' that covers the catch had distorted preventing the securing tang from retracting fully and allowing the saddle securing loop to enter the catch.

Not Sorted!

Removed tool box, tightened up everything as Straypuss suggested, sorted plastic bit around latch, still can`t get the feckin` thing to lock.

Buttocks

I thought we had it when it locked. You will have to persevere with your wiggling technique which seems to be needed even with the standard saddle. The front corbin may also be causing the lock to bind preventing the hook from coming back far enough
to allow the rear loop to be engaged.

Had exactly this issue with mine as well. I could solve it by removing the garden-hose clad bolt that acts as the front hook on the left side of the rear saddle! It somehows goes in the wrong angle, or is too long - whatever.

End of story, it's still off, and saddle is well in place - the right side is held by its' bolt, and the left side by the u-bracket. Try it (if you still have the problem, that is.)

I haven`t Tried that!

Cheers,

Haven`t even looked at the thing since before Christmas, I will give it a go - nothing ventured etc.

Thanks

Fergus

Sorted!

Straypuss and his magic fingers solved the problem.
Thr plastic retaining thingy for the seats was cracked [probably due to my repeated thumps to get the seat on!] cable tied it to the frame rails to keep it in the proper place and it fitted on no problem.
Methinks the retaining thingy was moving downwards and not allowing the seat bracket to engage.

Seat latching

What worked for me on my RT, was to "shim" the lock/latch up with some flat washers on top of the fender where it is mounted. Start with one washer on each side at a time. They're roughly the thickness of a coin.

Also, I put the "tongue" found on the backside of the drivers seat "between" the split prongs/tongue found on the front of the passenger seat.

The fit was snug but not overly tight.

Took some trial an error to get the feel of installing and removing the seats a few times.

Fitting a Corbin ta GS1100/1150

Having browsed this thread a couple of times.............I'll give you my thoughts, having fitted the same Corbin to 4 different GS's of the above types

Corbin Front Seat

Having fitted the wire rack to the underside ........ slide the front of the wire rack into either of the front serrated seat height hooks (depending on whether you want it on the high/low position) and push it 'home'.
When it's in position, hold the rear of the front seat and slowly pull it rearwards, whilst applying slight downward pressure, this will then make sure the rear of the wire frame, engages the front seat locking latch mechanism.
When the front seat has locked in postion, check the front hasn't slipped off the front height adjusters.............if it hasn't.........
bingo you're 'home & dry'.

Corbin Rear Seat

Leave the 'garden hose' on the front locators.
When fitting the rear 'U' latch take (4) 10mm nuts.
Firstly screw (2) of the 10mm nuts all the way to the top of the threads to the seat base.........this gives you the 'right spacer' ............
Then attach the 'U' latch and then bolt up the second pair of 10mm nuts and tighten up.
Now you have the latch at the correct height to engage with the locking mechanism for the rear seat catch.
Slowly engage the front two prongs of the rear seat and slowly push down the rear 'U' catch onto the locking mechanism, until it clicks into place.

No need for 'magic fingers'

Job done.

However a word of warning.........

Tape up the top face of the rear rack and the sides, especially where the front seat 'rubs' against the sides.

Plus fully tape up the grab rail on all sides and top.

I use silver gaffa tape...........matches perfectly to OEM paint and stops the Corbin rubbing away all the OEM paint, which it will do very, very quickly (have a look and see)
These seats are heavy and can rub the rack badly.
Re-tape and replace at regular intervals...........Corbins can rub through strong Gaffa tape, every couple of weeks to months.

This is the price of supreme comfort
