Roadlok problems

I am on my third Roadlok, only because I changed bikes. Nevertheless they have been faultless (to date) I only deploy when in public car parks and the bike is out of sight.

I’m off to buy some graphite spray, thanks for the heads up.

Home now after riding up from Plymouth yesterday evening. Biblical rain around Bristol, then more rain from about Wolverhampton to home. Aren't the motorways shocking in the wet and dark!! No cats eyes, worn out all but invisible road markings, no street lights even at busy intersections. It felt 3rd world after 3 weeks in Spain. Anyway we made it.

I’ve taken the roadlok off and removed the lock barrel. It’s been soaked in petrol, squirted with WD40 rinsed in meths, wiggled and waggled, and left to dry. The lock is a bit smoother now and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to jam up, but the key feels very loose and there’s about 120degrees of slack sloppy turn before the locking pin starts to move. Can someone else with a roadlok confirm this is normal please. I’ve messaged Chris from Roadlok but it seems he is recuperation from an operation for a week or so more.

I'll take a look when I remove mine in the morning. If I remember as I'm in the bar in Bastogne now.

I do mean exactly the same for both... does the link below work for you?
-->> Roadlok
Yup that works. Thank you. I don’t remember it being that loose, but then I never tried it on the bench. When I cleaned the lock out in petrol a lot gunge came out, the petrol was like dirty dishwater.

I’m hoping it’s normal.

I washed mine out with brake cleaner and then put some graphite powder in it. The tiny amount I put in proved to be way too much and now there's a grey sheen in the hole and key way and on me, the desk, the floor etc. Lock turns OK though ;)

I own two Roadlocks and both require the key to rotate 180 degrees , before the locking pin retracts . As this happens , the key rotates further, beyond 180 degrees .
Just maybe , it’s an anti lock picking feature
My only gripes , which I can live with are ;
1) Very usual to struggle pulling the disk pin out ( wiggling the handlebars helps but often need to move the bike . ) This is disk gripping and I’ll guess not fixable.
2) Often need to push a bike a fair way , before the disk pin engages . ( more a feature of red bike versus GSA ). The result , is that you find the front wheel outside the parking bay lines .
Hey it doesn’t bother me as long as my bike is still there when I return .

I haven't bothered engaging the lock lately for that reason. If somebody tries to move the bike it will engage. Does defeat the inherent safety feature that you can't ride off with the Roadlok pin engaged though.

I guess some of it depends on the diameter of the hole in the disks, together with how much weight of the bike is pressing on the pin. Only once or twice has mine been difficult to remove if I’ve engaged the pin, and like you say a wiggle of the steering usually unweights it enough to remove it.

I don’t normally ensure the pin engages either. My lock engages with the middle ring 3 of disk holes (if you think of the holes as concentric rings) which are about 4cm apart, so that’s as furthest the bike is going if someone tries to move it. It’d probably be on its side after that though.

I’ve ordered brake cleaner and graphite powder and vow to keep on top of maintenance from now on.
