I'm opening a book on when the first reports of engine cover corrosion appear.

Any offers on 10/1 within 6 months :D

I can see what he's trying to do, but it's not really in keeping with the style of the bike and I would have to take it off every time I cleaned behind it - clear helicopter tape would look better imho

+1

I'd never have one on any of my bikes:D

I'm not sure I'd put adhesive helicopter tape on the front engine cover as it gets quite hot:rob:comfort:D

Maybe, hmmmmmm 3M helicopter tape specced to 160C, will have to get my thermometer out.

I've put some on various parts of my bike, but after feeling how hot the front casing got after a ride, went down the crud catcher route instead

How can anyone who rides a GS worry about looks? :augie

I fitted a crud catcher to my 1200 GSA about 6 months after taking delivery and 40k plus miles later the front cover still looks like new

If BMW fitted something similar to the bikes on the production just imagine how many £'s in warranty claims they would have saved themselves :blast

Heli Tape,,

after its recommendation on site fitted it to my 07 fork fronts looks the biz and does a great job...

I'd be interested in that Temp reading...? tho I think it'd yellow and melt..

but then again??

any one know of a rear Mudgaurd type thingy?? I fitted one to my 07 and its worked a treat,,

Also fitted a fender extender which reduced huge amounts of crap but it is used mostly on road..

:thumb2

In line with the quality of their screws/nuts/bolts/brake line fittings then.

Also a mudguard that's long enough to be useful would help. Who knows why the designers slavishly stick with GP bike styling - its not like fender extenders exactly stand out,

The rear frame rails also get pebble-dashed. invisible film will protect the paint from pinholes. Its used on car rear wheel-arches so why not bike frames?

My bike (now 40K) came to me with no crud catcher no fender extender and no invisible film. Guess where I now have corrosion.

That part of the motor really should not get that hot!

Combustion temps in the cylinder and head area of a couple of hundred degrees but the block itself I would have thought shouldn't be much more than sort of 60 / 80 degrees C ????

Think we need a laser thermometer on this one
