Corrosion

Check around the water pump tell-tale hole and the lower engine mount fixings as well. There was lots of corrosion on mine when I started looking really closely. Engine exchanged by BM and then bike exchanged 3 weeks later. It's depressing when you first find it isn't it? :-(

Engine & bike replaced - why both?

Engine was replaced under warranty due to corrosion issues. Bike was due it's 6000 mile service, so I asked for a price for the service and a quote against a new bike. The difference was small enough for me to opt for the new bike instead.

My 6k service was £199. They must have given you a sweet px price for you to even consider swapping as an option. Unless of course you really didn't need much persuading and the numbers were almost irrelevant

Either way your choice and good on you for getting what you want...same colour I assume to avoid arousing suspicion from the other half ;)

It was a bit of both I suppose. I needed tyres as well which reduced the difference even further.
I have another Red (fastest) one

Take it to the dealer. Get them to photograph it and refer back to Bmw uk. Mine was the same and they replaced the full engine. They also replaced the final drive due to corrosion.
It shouldn't happen but Great service from BMW.
