Corsica & Sardinia leaving next week

Off on a 10 day jolly down to Sardinia and Corsica on Monday.

After a relatively boring first day Autoroute schlep down to Piney the routes look lovely. Taking the opportunity to see the Route de Combe Laval on the way down.

Corsica looks epic! Particularly looking forward to visiting Bonifacio..

Depending on what time you roll off the train in Calais, you can maybe spice up your Calais to Piney leg:

Calais > Cambrai (via motorway, one hour) then Bohain-en-V > Rethel > St Menehould > Vitry le F > Piney or similar, as there are several ways cross-country.

So James,were the routes any good, specifically on the islands ?
Might pinch the routes for next year as planning a quick trip in May before we do Himalayas in July.

Preferred Corsica on balance to Sardinia. The routes were lovely, especially Corsica but were a little on the long side for 2 days per Island. Bonifacio was beautiful and Bastia is a great place to stay. The hotel on Sardinia was a great stopover so highly recommend the hotels.

Corsica looks epic! Particularly looking forward to visiting Bonifacio..

You need to fix your Day 1 route to the Chunnel, or you’ll (potentially) miss your exit.
Place your waypoint #25 at the slip road for the Chunnel, as currently it is taking you to Calais via the ferry at Dover, the. Returning you via the tunnel back at the Folkestone terminal. Essentially forcing you to ride on to Dover Ferry.

Not the point… fellow sharing routes with bods to use. Some might not be as focused as others and then blame OP for their F***up, whilst shouting from the top of the hill, that “they were only following g the route they had downloaded from the internet”

Corsica great place enjoy.

Air Traveling to Southern Sardinia in October, never been to either of the islands. We are going to hire a car, as staying an hour away from the airport. The car will enable us to go places.

Would be nice to ride around Corsica at some point in the future.

We are on Corsica now having been on Sardinia for a week before.

Our route to get here was Plymouth >>>> Santander >>>> (2 nights to get to) Barcelona >>>> Porto Torres ( Sardinia) >>>> loop around Sardinia on very wiggly roads for 6 days >>>> Santa Teresa Gallura >>>> Bonifacio. And now 2 nights later in the far North of Corsica having been on equally wiggly mountain roads most of the time here too. Total 6 nights on Corsica. Return is the reverse but 10 days in Spain.

So far I’ve preferred Sardinia. It’s cheaper, the road surfaces better, and slightly less busy. On both islands the roads are actually mental. Get into the mountains and it is corner after corner after corner. And not a curve, I mean A CORNER. The mountain roads are constant 2nd —3rd - 4th - brake - 2nd - 3rd - brake 2nd - 3rd - 4th. Etc etc.

Although I speak French somewhat better than Italian the Sardinians far more willing to break into English if they have it.

We are just winging it both route and accommodation wise. Not had a flop yet.

The only issue has been the visor mechanism on my newish (2 months old) Nolan helmet failed. So we had a big diversion to a Nolan dealer in Sassari (N Sardinia). Has to go back to Nolan apparently. No parts available. I tried for a couple of hundred of miles with only the sun shield but that was horrible. So I bought a replacement helmet and transferred the intercom over. The old helmet is now taking up all our spare space in the top box. It’s going back to Sportsbikeshop for repair or ideally money back.

I’ve seen no other UK plated bikes, or cars or anything come to that since a few miles from Santander. Lots of German registered bikes and some insanely fast riders too. We are two up, heavily loaded and I’ve lost my mojo for going quick so we must be the slowest bike on the road.

Anyway thoroughly enjoying it.

Thank you for a bit of insight into islands. Both in my to do list. Sardinia we will be driving around in October, and Corsica, well that will have to wait it’s own turn.

We are off to Corsica for the second time at the end of the month. Only 4 days there, but it was fantastic last time, so not expecting any different. 2 days a few miles North of Ajaccio and 2 days in Bastia.
