Going to Corsica in August. As it will be the height of the season I am wondering if we will have to book a campsite. We don't usually like to book as we like to check campsites out in the flesh. There appears to be plenty of sites to chose from but don't want to be caught out.

Not tried camping in Corsica but if you wanted a roof over your head then you would certainly need to book ahead, have deep pockets or be prepared to search around a lot for somewhere to stay. Some towns quite small and limited choices of accommodation, and still very busy with tourists when I was there in mid Sept.

.

Definitely recommend booking ahead in August. Corsica is a deservedly popular spot in the summer. Plenty info here
Ferries shouldn't be a problem, assuming you're taking the bike. Corsica ferries have been advertising a lot on the local radio here, and have some cracking deals on even in August. Linky

Thanks chaps
Will definitely book a campsite - the ferries are already booked. :Motomartin

Just a quick update for those interested.
There was no need to book a campsite in Corsica as people tend to move on regularly as getting anywhere is pretty slow and there's lots to see.
Can't recommened Corsica enough - the best biking destination I've ever been to, will definitely go back.

I'll have to wait till the wife gets back :nenau :blast

For goodness sake, man... did you not notice the handling was more responsive on the ride home???

I've always wanted to go to Corsica, but never quite got round to it. If you can post some nice photos, it might just persuade me to make the effort...

I went.

It lashed with rain.

That's the trouble with islands; you can't get off.

We did Corsica in August a couple of years ago, found some brilliant camp sites away from the coast, never booked ahead, no problem. The ones on the coast were a bit more geared towards the motorhome owners and not so nice. Definately recommend Corte, fantastic but basic campsite here with wonderful views of the citadel and homemade pizza cooked on site! also well worth visiting are L'lle Rousse and Ajaccio if you have the time take a ferry out of Bonafacio to Sardinia it is the most incredible harbour! This is possibly the best country I have ever visited...enjoy!

I would agree. Can't recommend it highly enough, will try and post some picks over the next couple of weeks.:augie

Camping Corsica

I would definitely recommend booking a campsite in Corsica in advance. Since it's still high season in August in France, it is really difficult to find a place to stay overnight. Of course, if you aren't afraid to spend a night or two wild camping Corsica, then you'll be ok without booking in advance.

I went camping Corse two years ago at the end of July without booking in advance, ended up spending a lot more in hotels. So last year just pre-booked everything and was very happy. I used this website: http://www.europe-camping-guide.com/en/list/france/corse/, I hope it helps :)

How strange that this thread has resurfaced as we are thinking of going to Corsica again this year - 1st 2 weeks of Sept.

Just to recap we didn't book in 2010 and had no problems, the friends we went with went back last year without booking and had no problems (August), so we won't book this year.

It's worth noting, however, that we prefer quiet farm type campsites we don't need a bar, restaurant or swimming pool and we're happy away from the coast.

We were going through our 2010 photos the other night and I realised that I didn't post them - I shall try again over the next couple of weeks.

Cheers
