The Petit Fute bods have updated their 'bikers' guide to Corsica. I picked up a copy in a newspaper shop in Provence over the weekend.

It's quite good, with lots of suggestions, maps, route cards, albeit in French. Don't let it being 'in foreign' put you off though.... A map is a map, a route a route, no matter what.

Any half decent UK bookshop should order one in if you ask nicely.

Corsica is Swing heaven

For a fraction of a second... I misunderstood this. :D

Been there this summer (by car :tears ). Almost everywhere you go will be amazing on a bike.
Done quite a lot of the inner routes and those are amazing and with much less traffic compared to what you will find on the coast.

Kawanor, really enjoyed your Corsican trip. Some excellent off-road sections. Great photography , even understood the odd word . You certainly covered some ground. Thanks for posting.:thumby:

I'm working on it .... !! :eek

Truly one of the strangest things to encounter just wandering about on the road, those.. :thumb

Apart from a local on a bad day you're probably not wrong. (Although the goats in the tree tops were a bit of a surprise .... :D)

+1 for Corsica.
A week there in July based in Porto was heaven, apart from the odd moment where the road surface was dubious on the way up to Col De St.Eustache, an alarm system that decided to fubar in the 30`C heat. Everything was taken in its stride, leaving me grinning from ear to ear.

time to get back to the stash of unedited video that I recorded on the Gopro`s

Iplanning a trip leaving at Easter. Can anyone recommend where to stay? I was looking at camping but I'm not sure if any of the campsits will be open.. Other than that, happy to rent a mobile home or something

Google: Camping in Corsica France

Have a browse through the sites, pick a couple and contact them to see if they are open. They are all reviewed one way or another, maybe not every time by like minded bikers but, hey.

One tip. It's not a huge island, so you can move about.

Second tip. Try to avoid camping in the mountains. Why? Because if the weather is pants, it's really pants.

Third and last tip. The tourist office is really helpful. Contact with confidence.

I've had another look round since. There are some open in April. We have a couple of Krout softees going to though and they want to rent a mobile home or something. That is a bit restrictive though because you have to normally book them for a week and that may be difficult unless we want to be there Sat-Sat. We were looking more Tue-Tue

Beautiful island. We've been there a couple of times with our push bikes. Will take a GS there one day.

I understand that the inland villages in Corsica have problems getting their young to stay when they reach adulthood. At the best they go to the coast and most move across to France. Consequently the inland villages are only inhabited by a small number of older people.

Another shame was the undisguised rubbish tips on the way into most villages. Everything just tipped over the edge of the road into the valley regardless. Normally there would be pigs rooting about in the worst bits.

I understand that the gendarme earn lots off speeding bikers, keen to get into the mountains after the ferry crossing.

We were there last May. Arrived early morning on the ferry and rode across the island to the West coast. The mountain roads are awesome, as is the coast rode. Eventually we ended up in Piana and asked at the tourist office for places to stay for 4-5 nights. It was still early in the season and most of the gites, apartments and stuff were closed but we persuaded a lovely lady who lived in a big mansion to open up the one bedroom apartment in a corner of the mansion. It was fab, great views etc etc and I think we paid 30 Euro a night, which was excellent value.

I didn't notice many campsites and the ones I did did not look open, ie had that look that said I might be open but I haven't been spruced up for the coming season.

The weather was awful while we were there - heavy rain and cold winds camping would have been miserable. Photo out of a cafe window in Piana
