trying to sort my dads laptop cant get any microsoft updates as it wont validate my copy. the code on label on laptop does not match the one it is running acording to microsoft does not mean its counterfeit .the code on the label is for xp home edition.its running xp professional must have been up graded at some time is there a way to get it validated .or just stop the pop up everytime you turn it on.thanks in advance for any ideas or help

all the counterfeits are XP Pro AFAIK. there is a way to get it validated, pay microsoft $150.

if you set it to automatic updates, it will update. you won't be able to do it manually.

there were loads of patches on the web to get rid of the nags a while back. try a search for Windows Genuine Advantage or WGA patch. never used one myself, so can't vouch for their effectiveness.
