Coverwise - AVOID!

Leaving aside Axa’s very poor (atrocious) servicing of the claim, it’s still not to clear what the OP was claiming for, nor indeed which (or both) of possibly two policies he was claiming under.

As far as I can make out, the circumstances were:

1. On the 25th August 2025, the OP had a booking / ticket for a Brittany Ferries’ crossing.

2. On the way to the ferry, the OP has had some kind of problem with his vehicle. This problem, whatever it was, seemingly caused him to either miss the ferry’s departure or he cancelled the ticket. It is not at all clear what.

3. On the following day (26th August) the OP submitted a claim to his insurer, Axa. His post appears in the Travel insurance sub-section, so we can only assume it was his Travel policy he submitted the claim under. In other words, he was not submitting a claim under a Breakdown policy, assuming that is he had one.

4. According to Axa’s reply, the OP’s claim was for ‘additional expenses’ whatever they are.

5. It seems that whatever the claim was for, Axa have denied coverage. Axa has though made an ex-gratia payment of £75 to the OP in recognition that their ‘service’ has, at best, been very poor.

Lord only knows what really went on, what the OP is claiming for, for how much, or under which policy he made the claim. In sort, it’s as clear as mud.

All that aside. The OP is not obliged to accept Axa’s ex-gratia payment of £75. He can still pursue Axa for whatever it is he believes he is covered for under his policy. If that pursuit fails and he is still dissatisfied, the FCA’s Ombudsman is his next port of call. With a bit more substance, we might (who knows) be able to help the OP.
