Reims - avoid ..!!

I refer anyone reading this to Stepper's anti theft tip: let the air out of your tyres and use an air pump to re-inflate them next morning to re-inflate them.
That’s a good point
One I may well be using, in future

Bikes can be and are nicked from anywhere. Reims, is no better or worse (as a city) than anywhere else.

The post quoted in post #1, is silent as to whether the bikes were additionally secured in any way.

Letting the tyres down, does indeed slow a ‘push away’ theft. It does nothing to reduce the not uncommon, scaffolding pole through the wheels and up and away into a van.

PS I seem to remember the Reims story, doing the rounds before. Probably a similar occurrence.

But anyway, it’s not the first. This one looks like the same event as the opening post, or something very similar:

In the following comments the chap stated that his bike was alarmed and had an additional lock of some sort

It seems only newish GS’s were targeted and seemingly other marques were untouched

No doubt bound for Lithuania

But, apparently not in the City of London, where many bods leave their bikes all day, totally unsecured.

Had a similar tale from a mate from the trials world. Both his and his mates GS were stolen from their hotel in Reims a couple of weeks ago. His bike had a Litelock fastened to his brake disc, the thieves cut the brake disc instead. The other two bikes with them were untouched.

There's been much talk of butter in the fridge on here.
As this is France would a carton of brie suffice?

Just to add something on Step's (awesome) tyre tip.

In Italy is not uncommon for the thieves to show up with a small van lifting the entire bike as Wapping describes above. I guess France might be similar.
The "thieves" are a bit more "professional" than the common scum on our shores.

Lock accordingly ;)

IF they were lifted straight into a van as the OP suggests, I'm not sure that would have made much difference.
