Drop he engine and vapour blast it is the only real way.
I cleaned one of mine up with wd40 and a small brass wire brush in a circular motion. Took a long time but actually came up mint.

Maybe it would look much better if you carefully hand painted with a few coats of matt black heat resistant stone chip? Start with a coat of etch primer specifically for aluminium. I did this with the front of my previous RT TC engine, came up great.
As above. I've heard lots of positive reports re RubnBuff. I was also going to suggest the scotchbrite and a mild abrasive solution. Maybe try that first?
